You can get a phone with out a plan but they are expensive, but should work with gophone sim although I hear rumor the simcards are now lock to the gophone you get for 6 mos or something you will need to verify the period. You can just buy a $25 gophone and activate it and use it until your able to switch over but they are the same sim card as regular Accounts. You might researh unlocked phones like on amazon maybe cheaper.

You can pay full retail price for any phone and use it with your GoPhone SIM - and you won't be paying for two monthly plans. You can purchase a phone at the no-commitment pricing at an at&t Corporate store, and you may even have the ability to do so on-line if you are still under contract on your post paid plan.
If you've purchased your GoPhone within about the last year as part of a GoPhone package and you received a free airtime credit when you purchased it, then it is possible your GoPhone SIM is currently locked to the phone it was activated with. If that's the case, you would just need to contact at&t customer service and ask them to unlock the SIM so it can be used in another phone.
