Android 2.2 (Froyo) is out.

Android 2.2 (Froyo) is out.

For those of us with Nexus One's, Android 2.2 (Froyo) has been released by Google for the AT&T banded N1's. I've manually updated mine. Now, to go see what its all about!

There's an article on HTC expects to release Froyo update before Christmas.

Wow that's a long time especially if they expect 3.0 Gingerbread to be released around October.  Hopefully it's sooner than that.

By the time HTC releases Froyo, we will probably be running Gingerbread. Smiley Very Happy

Do you guys know if when you buy an Android phone on the AT&T web site, they ship with the newest version of Android on them (2.2?).  I'm thinking of buying either the Motorola Backflip or the Sony Ericsson Experia.  I just got off the phone with a customer service person, and she told me that they did go out with the latest versions, but I don't know if I believe her.

Does anyone know?

Thank you,

Re: Android 2.2 (Froyo) is out.

HTC has not released a 2.2 version for the Aria and Motorola has not released a 2.2 version for the Backflip, so if you order a phone from AT&T is will not have Android 2.2 on it.

Re: Android 2.2 (Froyo) is out.

Moto Backflip users were told in March the phone would be upgradeable to 2.1.  We watched in eager expectation, believing AT&T had done their homework and finally done right by customer's who wanted the Android platform, and not Apple.  We were over joyed.  We had just seen the MOTO DROIDs on VZW go from 2.0, to 2.1 to 2.2 by February, and thought we had arrived.

Then we were told by Motorola: 2.1 to be released by 3rd quarter - july, august, or september.  Now they are telling us 4th quarter, and we will be lucky to have the upgrade at all by the 1 year anniversary release date.  Meanwhile, other Techies tell us Motorola shipped the backflip with older architecture & plaforms and a graphics accelerator inferior to the DROID.  2.1 if it is launched 1 year later, will probably crash the phones, causing angry calls to customer service, and then class actions lawsuits ensue for false advertising.

Appears someone at AT&T didn't want to hurt outcoming i-phone 4 sales, but didn't want to see customer's bleed off to VZW and the Droids.  I most certainly would have if not so many family members on AT&T and not in areas where they can convert to VZW.  So I bought the baited phone, only to be laughed at and taunted by DROID users from VZW.  Then then the i-phone launches and drops calls if you hold it in the wrong hand, but then brilliant Apple specialists develop a case cover to resolve reception issus.

Meanwhile Apple is developing a new i-phone for VZW in Janauary, Backflip customers have been burned.  Maybe instead of gothcha games from SouthWestern Bell who bought the failing AT&T name and then bought Cingular and ruined things even further, you should remember "it's the customer stupid" - both you and MOTO might as well not endure the humilitation of trying to upgrade a phone that was old & inferior to the DROIDs @ VZW when it launched, and put the new architecture into the Backflip 2 with the 2.2 upgrade already installed, and ship it with an apology to existing Backflip customers.  Might be cheaper, and might keep you from bleeding more customers to VZW's DROID phones.

Don't buy the Backflip, maybe the Samsung Captivate.  Nothing more frustrating when a call comes through and that stupid green bar won't slide to answer a call, and you have to stop and get back to the home page, and have to redial the person who is now busy because they are talking to your Voice Mail!

I don't think you boys did their lab work, but then again I can see how not when you have to try to stop customer from leaving the then i-phone 3 and going to VZW with the DROID.

Been a customer since 1999, but we may not make it beyond year 13 AT&T.  I don't like gotcha games, I don't like being had.  In case you need a reminder { Please keep it courteous }  - without us you don't have business.
