AT&T Access in Hungary: "No Service," "No Service," etc.

Tata, Hungary

I was told that use of my iPhone was no problem while traveling in Turkey. Four in our group of 6 bikers have iPhones. None of us has yet succeeded in getting service to work over (so far) three full days. We often can see three or four Hungary-based cell provider companies on the phone but none has worked even once — for any of us.

For example, right now, Carrier searching brings up Vodaphone HU, T-Mobile H & Telenor HU. None will connect and the "No Service" has been the unbending rule so far for all four of us.

When in a wi-fi spot, we are able to sign onto signals ok and the the data side of our iPhones operates ok.

What IS THE STORY here?

Did you add international roaming to your iphones?  Follow my link bellow to get a phone number for international support while overseas.

Also go to Settings>General>Network>Data Roaming>on/off

Have you confirmed that in Hungary they use the right frequencies that the iPhone 4 supports?

Good Luck

I was checking this area of ATT and you should have coverage for voice and data.  I would suspect that your accounts are blocked for international use?

Where did you buy your iPhone and is it unlocked?  If you bought a US iPhone, unless you specifically bought an unlocked iPhone from Apple in the last few months, it is locked to US AT&T.  If it is locked to US AT&T, you have to have international roaming enabled on your phone to use it with providers outside the US.

Is it Turkey or Hungary you're having trouble roaming in?

Looks like you can roam in both, so long as you have international roaming turned on.
