Galaxy Watch Drops Number Sync
When I walk away from my phone number sync drops. What is the point if I have to turn off my phone to leave it behind to use number sync? I have a Galaxy Watch and Note 8. If I turn off my phone the numbers stay sync'd but not if I just walk away and Bluetooth looses connection. That is just ridiculous.

Hey @Steve1964,
We're here to help! Have you tried to clear the cache? If not, follow these steps to do so: Go to Settings > Apps > Tap the three dots on the upper right hand corner > Select Show System Apps > Scroll down and tap Bluetooth > Force Close > Storage > Clear Cache. Your phone should reboot the Bluetooth and connect to the watch at this point. If it doesn't, go to the gear app and tap connect.
Let us know if you have any further questions!

I followed those steps and the same thing happens, number sync drops whenever I walk away from my phone. I seemed to be better for a bit last night with one test but then this morning I walked a little too far from my phone and I got the alert on my watch that number sync was disabled.

Hi @Steve1964
Thanks for reaching back out to us. Let's try three more things to see if we can get this pairing issue sorted for you.
1) Reset your network settings: Swipe up or down to view Apps. Touch Settings. Scroll to and touch General management. Touch Reset. Touch Reset Network Settings. Touch RESET SETTINGS. Touch RESET SETTINGS. The network settings have been reset.
2) You can use our Troubleshooting and Resolve tool. Simply select your device, and it will walk you through the rest.
3) Here is a previous forum thread with some basic Bluetooth troubleshooting measures.
If none of these are effective at resolving the issue, please let us know and we'll proceed from there. Thank you.

The issue is not Bluetooth connectivity it is with Number Sync. The problem with your service appears when my watch loses BT connection to my phone. Based on the distance from my phone BT dropping is expected. What is NOT expected is that number sync also ends. The service should carry over to the 4G connection the watch has available. Please help me solve number sync issues, I don't need help with a non-existent Bluetooth issue.

no but does the watch have a signal in the area you go to? That is the problem with these smartwatches they only have so much room for an antenna in the watch.

First, Thanks for asking a question relative to the actual issue. Yes, I've tested turning off both WiFi and Bluetooth and am able to get number sync to work fine so coverage isn't the issue. I just don't want to burn my watch battery with full time 4G enablement so it is set to Auto. The best guess I can make is when BT drops between the two devices the handoff to cellular on the watch isn't smooth or quick enough so the number sync service times out before the watch can get connected. I'm not a watch, phone or cell expert so I'm just guessing...

Hello @Steve1964
Thanks for providing further updates about your numbersync error for both devices!
Both devices can only have a minimum distance from each other before the Bluetooth and number sync disconnects.
If you continue to have device disconnections, feel free to access our Device Support/ Wearables Portal and select which smart watch you have and follow the step-by-step process to help resolve the numbersync error.
We hope this helps, and you have a great evening!

Those directions tell me how to install and setup Number Sync but, like all the other responses from AT&T Support, does not address my actual issue of the service dropping once connected.
I understand that Bluetooth has distance limits, who doesn't. However, I expect the service to work as advertised that I can walk away from my phone and Number Sync will allow me to receive and answer phone calls and texts sent to my primary number .
In testing I have powered off my phone which kills the BT connection and Number Sync seems to work well enough. The issue appears to ONLY occur if both devices are powered on and connected to the cell network with no Bluetooth connection. That said, if I turn off Bluetooth and then enable Number Sync the whole thing works okay for a while even if I reenable Bluetooth.

I guess at&t has no solution for this issue. I think
it's time to just return the watch and leave the appropriate rating on the sales site .

For anyone who has issues with the Galaxy watch, especially the GearS3 , you may be able to get a free replacement watch. My story : watch was 1 1/2 yrs old , so out of warranty. Kept shutting off after charging, and eventually wouldn't even turn on. Like dead in the water. Fed up with taking it back to store where purchased , I decided to just cancel the service and forget about it. Too frustrating. Contacted service provider and the loyalty department offered a free new watch. And...its an upgrade from the GearS3. Better battery supposedly. Only thing is you are committing to a 2 year contract. But there is a 1 year warranty. So...here's hoping this will work better ! They'd rather send you a new device than hear the dreaded "cancel " word ....
