Hello @Baileywick,

The Apple Watch has an AT&T telephone number and associated rate plan and will appear on your monthly bill. Note, the watch telephone number cannot be used for voice, data or text messaging from the watch.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. I would recommend using NumberSync!

Greeting @Baileywick,

I understand how this can be a great feature to manage calls on your Apple Watch. I would love to help!

In order for your Apple Watch to be able to make and receive calls, it would need to follow a few steps. I was able to locate an awesome Forums post as a resource here. This will provide the information regarding requirements and how to Sync your Apple watch to your iPhone.

Apple is also very informative on the process on how to make and receive calls. You may visit this link here on it.

Please let us know how it goes! Contact us back if you need further assistance. We are always here to help!

Does not allow a phone call from the iPhone to the Apple Watch with cellular.  Trying to call the Apple watch goes to voicemail.  Does not allow the Apple watch to call the iPhone either.  Should this be possible?

@Baileywick  If you have used number sync to link the devices, you are essentially calling yourself.  And yes, you get Voicemail every time.

Can I ask what you are trying to do?

I would like to be able to call and send text messages between my iPhone and my Apple watch when the devices are only connected cellular. Thus, if my wife has our iPhone at home and I am down town with the Apple Watch I would like to communicate with her. I have found that I can text but there is no audible/visual indication that a text has been received. Calling from the iPhone to the watch results in access to voice mail.
It just seems like there should be an easy (???) fix/modification to allow this communication.

Thanks for your interest.

@Baileywick

Communication from your watch and phone are both sent and received from the phone’s number.  That’s how number sync works.    You will have to contact her number or use a 3rd party app to message.

You can FaceTime and iMessage yourself only, which can be done with cellular.

The only other way for calls is for the phone and watch not to be synced to the same number.

If you want the watch as a standalone device TURN NUMBERSYNC OFF....  Then your watch can use the number  to phone and text.  But remember your not going to get texts and calls that come into the iphone...  Your use is not what apple had in mind when they made the LTE watch.

I have received solutions to use number sync and not to use number sync!  Neither will allow me to make a call from my Apple watch to my iPhone or from my iPhone to my Apple watch 3 with.  No matter which phone number I use.  Apparently I am not explaining the problem.  I would like to be able to call my iPhone from my watch or from my iPhone to my watch when apart and only on cellular.

@Baileywick   If you want the watch to be a stand alone device, turn off number sync.   With number sync on, the watch and phone are using the phones number only.
