This set top box does not match the account settings on wireless receiver

My husband confessed that the lights on the receiver were bugging him one night so he covered them up. Now this tv has this message when we try to turn it on:

 

"This set top box does not match the account settings on wireless receiver"

 

 Is there a way to trouble shoot this?

Edit: Nevermind, spoke with tech support and they are sending out a technician today.

Unfortunately, he was not.  I was one of his last appointments that day and the amount of time he had to spend on hold with AT&T central made it so we had to reschedule for a different day.  Do you think you could fix this from your end?  It would save my repairman a trip!

I have had Uverse for 8-9 months and ordered a new wireless receiver for my basement. I didn't understand that they shipped the remotes separately and thought that once I received the receiver in the mail I was good to power it up. So I tried to power it up and use one of my other remotes but didn't understand that the service didn't activate until the remote was delivered. Now I get the "Account Not Found - this set top box does not match the account settings on the account" message.

I just spent an hour on the phone with my buddy "Roy" (obviously not his birth name) at some offshore call center. While he was very nice, all he could do is set me up for a technician appmt. Is there a good way to fix this? Can I power down then power up all the devices in a particular order so that the receiver is recognized?

You will need help from someone at AT&T to recover this box, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a technician visit.

Please click this U-verse Customer Service link to send a Private Message (PM) to the AT&T customer service team to help you resolve your issue. You can expect a reply via return PM (the blue envelope  will appear in the upper right hand corner of this site, next to your name and avatar) in a business day or three.

This is a group of U-verse service specialists who are knowledgeable about U-verse and will stay with your problem until the end (instead of forgetting about it when the phone hits the cradle). Speed things up by including your Billing Account Number, and the best time and way to reach you.
