Why no CBS?

I searched and found a thread that was 2 years old and disintegrated into a Big Brother discussion.

But it's 2 years later and AT&T has still not managed to get locally owned CBS stations on board (and ondemand)?

Whether you read this and watch or don't watch CBS is not the matter here. I do watch it. A lot of it. And it is the highest rated broadcast station. Why has nothing been done about securing this programming?

p.s.

the options to select Topic were very minimal. none of them really fit my question, so I just clicked one. feel free to move my thread as needed.

Re: Why no CBS?

On U-verse CBS On Demand is available in markets where the local CBS affilaite is owned and operated by CBS.  CBS on Demand is available here in the Dallas market.

Re: Why no CBS?

That means your local CBS station is owned by the CBS network. Here in SW Missouri, our CBS station in locally owned, Texasguy34

Chicago: WBBM-TV (channel 2)
Detroit: WWJ-TV (channel 62)
Denver: KCNC-TV (channel 4)
Fort Worth: KTVT (channel 11)
Los Angeles: KCBS-TV (channel 2)
Miami: WFOR-TV (channel 4)

That's the agreement ATT got w/CBS.  Originally some other areas here in MI had CBS VOD, but it changed when ATT realized it got it wrong. Smiley Wink

Re: Why no CBS?

99% of the time, when these contracts are up for renewal, things usually get improved or added onto.

The notable exception is the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel which were pulled years ago when Hallmark's ownership wanted substantially higher prices which AT&T refused to pay.

Maybe when the contract with Viacom and AT&T is up for renewal, things will improve. One can only hope.

They don't have a contract w/Viacom, just the individual stations in each market, AFAIK. Smiley Wink

Well, both, but neither matter here. It has a contract with Viacom, who is the owner of MTV, VH1, BET, etc.Viacom hasn't been affiliated with CBS for some time now.  It also has contracts with the local CBS affiliates.

CBS OnDemand, though, would be controlled by AT&T's contract with CBS, owner of CBS OTA programming, TVGN,  Showtime, etc.

Losing CBS

75% of the programming we watch is on CBS. If we lose that....you lose our business. Our contract includes local channels. That's what we ordered and pay for.

Re: Losing CBS

We are not allowed to comment on contract negotiations that may be underway. However, AT&T is committed to providing customers the channels they want at a fair price.

For every channel in your AT&T lineup, we have an agreement that allows us to deliver that programming to you. These agreements expire every few years. So we are continuously working to negotiate new contracts. We begin working with the TV network well in advance to put a new deal in place before the contract expires.

Local Chanels Bowling Green, KY

Why can we still not get local channels in Bowling Green, KY? I have applied for a DNS waiver and all channels were denied. I continue to hear from your representatives "keep checking back, it should be coming soon." I cant get my locals and I cant get Distant Network Services. What are my options here? Dish Network???

Re: Local Chanels Bowling Green, KY

DTV and dish can only give you the locals in your DMA per FCC rules.

Re: Local Chanels Bowling Green, KY

The Bowling Green situation is very confused. There are no locals and everyone was getting the DNS channels. Then out of the blue ALL the DNS channels disappeared, and as far as I know no-one has been able to get them back, so effectively people in the Bowling Green DMA can't get the networks at all.

Do not understand why this has happened.

Re: Local Chanels Bowling Green, KY

Thanks TexasBrit, I have been on every forum i can find trying to find new information or a solution. I dont know what is more frustrating, the fact that directv does not provide locals or that my DNS request was denied even when I dont have locals available. The people I spoke with made it seem like the fact that i dont already have them available would make it almost a garantee that i would be approved for DNS

Re: Local Chanels Bowling Green, KY

Can you get locals via an OTA antenna? If you do, then the denial of the DNS is correct.
