AT&T has failed to properly prepare for the anticipated end of contract negotiation with Nexstar - resulting in the loss of ABC station, a MAJOR network. This continues to happen, as in the past, when other channels were removed from the lineup - as your customers continue to pay increased costs in service. We set up another TV(purchased an antennae) that would give us this basic channel for the interim - assuming we will get the channel back at some time in the future! I think it's time to contact other providers who can provide continuing service that we PAY for and don't get with AT&T.

Locals are included. But the service does not guarantee that any specific local will always be available. So as long as a single local is being provided, DirecTV is honoring the package. If no locals are able to be provided, then they have an alternate version of the package that is slightly less in cost. This is how it has worked in the past, AT&T did not change it.
What is happening is over the last several years (starting before AT&T acquired DirecTV), local affiliate owners are pulling the feed more often in negotiations. And the current one with Nexstar appears to be one of the worst.
With a restaurant you pick and choose (al-a-carte) so if you see a hot dog for prime rib price, then you choose not to get that item. With a subscription service, such as a TV provider, it is all package based. So you choose the level of content that works for you. You can lower the package at any time, which has no affect on locals themselves as they are included in all packages. So your package is locals included, but what those local channels are can change at any time. Though normally it only changes during a negotiation where the owner pulls the feed. Once negotiation completed, then we have the channel back for however long they got a new agreement for.
Sorry to hear you cannot get good signal because of the mountains. Switching providers is not a permanent solution as they all go through the negotiations, and some have experienced where they hopped only to go through it all over again when it hit their new provider. What would really help is if the FCC would allow TV providers to have the option to provide either a local affiliate from another market (possibly a neighboring one) or a way to get a direct feed from the network instead. Unfortunately local affiliates are dug in hard for their markets so Federal regulations do not allow TV providers any other option.

There were sooooo many posts about channels being lost lately that the mods merged some of them (thank goodness).
I mean, seriously, do we need 30 separate posts regarding the same issue?

No I don't need to email anyone about the loss of major channels. Thats why I pay ATT $251.71 a month to take care of matters like this. ATT makes the the big bucks to be the negotiator for these deals not me and no one else that subscribe to your services. If you can't provide the service I need then I'll find the company that can. I've been with ATT for more than 10 yrs. For the most part loved the service you provided, but when you tell me I need to contact Nexstar to complain. This is where our relationship ends.

When are you going to put my local tv stations back on cable here in Visalia, California ? Do I need to switch to Comcast to receive them on CABLE ? Out side antenna is the only other way but I dont have that. Inside antenna doesn't work as the stations are to far away

We are disappointed to see Nexstar put you into the middle of negotiations by choosing to remove its local stations from your lineup. Click here to see how we’re fighting for you: tvpromise.com.

Since we are not receiving ABC, a channel we were promised when we signed up for AT&T, I believe all subscribers should subtract at least $25/day for each day we have not been able to get this channel. AT&T has not lived up to what it promised us.

I would like to know what we can expect in regard to WKRN channel 2. That is a basic channel and we pay way too much to not be able to receive ABC. I am sure that I can change to another service, but would prefer not to. Please tell me when this is going to be resolved.

I love DirectTV, you guys do an amazing job, you have a far better DVR, I love the NFL Sunday Ticket, I am truly happy with DirectTV, that said every night as a family my wife, my kids, and I sit down to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy together, silly or not this is one of our core family activities, I am giving you 2 weeks to get this straightened out with Nexstar otherwise I will have to cancel my service with you. Good luck.

Here we go again ☹
Realize that NextStar, the corporation that owns the stations pulled your channel, not DirecTV. This is an all too common negotiating tactic used by these corporations to extort more money from TV service providers. None are immune, so even switching providers won't help.
You will need to use an off-air antenna until they allow DirecTV to provide them again. If you can receive the station with an off-air antenna, this is a good time to request DirecTV’s Local Channel Connector (if you have HR44/HR54). It’s free. And some folks are getting a credit on their account, too. Call DirecTV …. 1 800 531 5000
You'll also want to contact the corporation that owns these stations. Request that they allow DirecTV to continue carrying them while negotiations continue. And ask them why providers like Dish, DirecTV and Comcast must pay them anything when they get to use our public airwaves for FREE?!? After all, these service providers increase their overall viewership and advertising revenue. They're shooting themselves in the foot!
The FCC and Congress could easily fix this. Just allow service providers to deliver an out-of-area station when local stations get greedy. But I fear that the broadcast TV lobby is too powerful to ever let that happen.

We didn't find any info about "When are we getting Our TV channels back. I pay a lot of money and I m not getting NBC or CBS. If we are not getting them back soon, we need to be told that. I am looking for other options. I will not wait much longer.". Try using a different search term. I have been a loyal customer for several years & even got others to sign up with AT&T. I hate to switch, but I feel I may have no choice. Please don’t ask me to watch it on another antenna or my phone.
