I Can not turn off the captions even though its showing as being off

Have you gone here and made sure both digital and standard are off: menu>options>audio/language options>closed captioning. If not make sure you Save the setting after turning it off.
If that's all done and still have captions, I'd do a hard reboot by unplug/plug in power after 30 seconds. This will fix many DVR problems, let us know if it worked, good luck.

I have a television that nobody else has access to.
My cc self started somehow!

If there was a reboot, CC would be turned on. Now can now just toggle it on/off w/red C button, think that's how yours got turned on. 😉

After trying to use the remote for the tv and turning off all CC settings I could find, CC was still on the screen. Solution: Using your cable remote (not tv remote) hit info button. Under the program information is a box that says "Turn CC off", scroll to that box and select "Ok". Problem solved.😁
