Hiding U-verse channels

Is it possible to hide channels so they will not be displayed when channel surfing?  My elderly father has issues with the U-verse remote and I was going to try to get him a big button remote that only controls channel up/down and volume.  I would like to program the receiver to only show the 20 or 30 channels he is interested in.
