Disable sound on weather alerts?

I have a special needs child who is terrified of the LOUD alert for weather. I understand that they have to be there as mandated by someone but is there a way to just turn off the sound? If my son is watching something on TV and it goes off I literally have to RUN and turn it off. My least favorite is when this happens and I'm in the shower.

Hi There @catnug,

Thank you for posting with the AT&T Community and Forums.  We do understand that you have child that has special needs and gets frightened by the sound made by the FCC mandated Weather Alerts.

According to the information that we have, the sounds are mandated by the FCC(Federal Communications Commission) and the EBS(Emergency Broadcast System).  There is not a way that we can just turn those off, because they are standard for everyone.

The only thing that we can suggest is that you can mute the TV's sound and turn on Closed Captioning instead.  So that way the young person doesn't get frightened.

If there is anything else that you need, please reach out to us again.

Thank you for being and AT&T Customer.

Why can Comcast customer turn off the loud sound? do they have a waiver that AT&T doesn't have?

Please don't bump old threads. I see you've already started a new one with the same question. I'm sure you'll find your answer in here.
