maximum linear distance between dish and tv

Is there a maximum distance (length of cable) between my dish and my TV?  I've had 2 techs tell me that you cannot have a cable run of more than 150' between the dish and the connection to the TV and still receive a signal.  I see others in the neighborhood that seem to exceed that and I'm jealous!  I live in the woods and would need to reset my dish beyond the treeline which would create a cable run of 150'+.
