Loosing Channels??

Like many other viewers, I "want" to keep my existing channels. Recently, you informed me that there were going to be program changes with more movies channels added. But you also explained I could keep my "just right" package at the same cost if I wanted to.  Shortly after, we lost the NFL network (part of my package).  Now, not even a week later, I'm seeing all kinds of warnings (Live PD, for example)  that we're (current customers) are about to lose several more channels (A&E, History, TLC, Lifetime, etc.) soon.  I also read a text stating that we should expect higher rates soon!  I've checked your "new" packages and realized that your Entertainment package ($93/mo.) includes all of these channels. So, it appears that you are not having difficulty negotiating renewal contracts with theses various providers. This is very unfair to existing customers. I feel that we (current users) should be "grandfathered" and allowed to keep our existing lineup at the current price, or be given some other compensation such as the Entertainment package at a significantly discounted cost.   I feel that you company should be focused on providing your loyal customer base with the product you advertise and they pay for.  Finally, I realize we're not under contract -- which is usually done to protect your interests. However, it appears that you may not be interested in protecting our interests.

Right now its just a negotiating tactic. Maybe it will happen, maybe not

Re: Is AT&T Losing A&E, History, or Lifetime Channels?

If AT&T gets rid of those channels, and especially Live PD, I will be switching.

Re: Why are we losing so many great channels?

DirecTV does not remove these channels. What happens is once the agreement expires, if a new one is not yet reached, it is up to the channel owner (the one who owns the broadcast rights) if they keep supplying the feed or pull it. More commonly the channel owner pulls it to leverage customers against the TV provider. Just a normal negotiating tactic that they have the right to do.

Hopefully they reach an agreement in good time, or at least get an extension while hashing out any final bits at that point. Channel pulling the feed, though more common, seems to come more often from local affiliates (or Viacom as they have done it a few times).

You can cancel my subscription now direcTV. True story

A&E is just advertising that their agreement with DirecTV is coming up. This is a normal negotiating tactic to leverage customers against the TV provider (DirecTV in this case) to get them a better deal. This is why TV providers have in their terms that channels/programming are subject to change. All TV providers go through this from time to time as they do not own the channels.

Normally agreement is reached before deadline is up, sometimes with an extension. It is not often that channel goes dark (with exception of local affiliates and the infamous Viacom), but when it happens it is usually not for long. Remember the quicker the DirecTV caves, the more our bill goes up during the next price adjustment.

If you truly want to cancel your service, then you need to call DirecTV 1-800-531-5000. Just remember if you have a service agreement, the ECF doesn't get waived because of negotiations.

So let us take a step back and see the "true story" for what it is instead of overacting.

RE:  LOSING LIVE PD AND A&E

We have U-verse, not Direct TV.   If AT&T gets rid of LIVE PD or the A&E channel, then they're losing several households in our huge family who all have U-verse and who all love LIVE PD.   So for those high monthly rates and we've been customers for about 11 years now, AT&T is gonna stab us in the back and get rid of A&E?   You've lost your minds,  AT&T.

Re: Why are we losing so many great channels?

What exactly are we fighting for?

The somewhat affordable grandfathered plans which offer the greatest selection of channels are not available to new subscribers; they must pay much more to get the same channels within the new, more insanely priced plans, so the consumer has already lost.

You can't always get what you want, so ask for less and offer to pay more, if online success is what you are hoping for. However, since I can't personally accept that way of thinking, I will continue to wear my parachute, waiting until it's my turn to jump off of this airplane ride.

Re: Why are we losing so many great channels?

Many grandfathered plans end up being more expensive. Choice Xtra Classic is a prime example as many people kept it for channels like Chiller and Cloo which at the time were in the Ultimate package. Since those channels have shutdown (completely with everybody), then you are getting no benefit over the Xtra package.

So I would review exactly what channels you watch and compare them against the current packages as most likely you can get less cost for the same or more channels (especially since new channels tend not to be added to grandfathered packages).

If it turns out the grandfathered package is still the best, then of course keep it. But always good to review once in a while to be sure.

Re: No more A&E? No more live PD????

I'll tell you this for sure,

It is Direct TV's responsibility to keep their customers happy with their channel choices and if they can't then they" Direct TV" will lose a lot more then just a few channels, they'll lose customers !  AT&T is a company I can not stand !  Direct TV should.ve never sold out to them they are a GREEDY conglomerate seeking only to fulfill their own GREED for Billions of $$ nothing more... so don't give me the line of BULL that it's the Channels being Greedy ok, they are ALL GREEDY  fighting over who Gets to Keep the most $$$ in their pockets without a care in the world for US THE CUSTOMERS THAT ACTUALLY KEEP THEM ALL ALIVE !!!
