What is LCC?

I have two Over The Air local channels show up on my guide I’ve never had before. But when I select them I get a message saying LCC is not connected. I do t know what that is? Can you help me? I do have an outdoor tv antenna but it’s hooked up to a separate box

LCC = Local Channel Connector

This is an add-on device that connects to an HR44 or HR54 Genie DVR to provide off-air reception with an off-air antenna. It's currently only available in a few cities. You're seeing a bug in the Guide database. You should not be seeing those off-air channels without the LCC connected.

Call DirecTV at 1 800 531 5000

The LCC is only available in areas that have lost local stations due to contract negotiations.

Re: What is LCC?

Hello,

I just got my LCC kit and even though the signal strength websites all show local channels in green. When set up with the device that plugs into the back of the Directv HR54  it finds the  local channels I'm looking for but gives a weak signal. Now leaving the Antenna in the same spot and  just for my own curiosity I took just the Winegard Flatwave that came with the kit and connceted it right to my TV and ran the Channel Finder and got all the Local Channels Crystal Clear.

So my question is why does it work via direct plugin to my TV and does not work with the Device( Model # LCCR0X-38) that plugs into the Directv HR54 but lists all the channels in guide... Also would it be possible to use an outdoor Antenna with this kit as I was told by a tech when I ordered it they were going to be sending an outdoor model that would pick up 60-75 miles away but what I got the indoor model that maybe pulls 50 miles?

All im seeing is inside kits when i looked online.

Re: What is LCC?

Right DTV only provides the flat antenna as they are not springing for a more expensive antenna. Yes any antenna with a coax can be connected to the LCC.  Not sure why a tech would say that unless that flat antenna can be used on the outside of a window.  Your TV'S tuner maybe more sensitive.

@shannon02

Thanks for the fast reply and answering my questions.

The model sent was the Winegard Flatwave inside only.. but I did pick up the GE Pro Outdoor/Attic Mount TV Antenna, 70 Mile Range, VHF/UHF Channels, Model Number 29884 from Walmart going to try tomorrow and see if it helps any via the LCC Device (Model # LCCR0X-38) and if not im going to just keep it connceted right to my TV and switch back and forth between the TV Inputs and figure out some other way to record my shows off the local channels.

Re: What is LCC?

OTA channels use 2.1 2.2 etc to designate the channel so you select the 2.1 channel to receive the OTA channel 2 to receive the sat channel, not sure how the LCC shows this.

Re: What is LCC?

One post here the Op was on the phone with DTV and they where telling them to tune to 24 their Fox channel so of course they got the channel removed message when they read my post they found their Fox was on 54.1 IIRC. So it appears nobody told them to use the .1 channels.

Thanks for the information. I do a lot of camping via TV Antenna with friends of mine so I have an idea of how the OTA Channels should come in, as stated in my 1st post this LCC Device showed them as you listed but stated weak weak signal for all OTA Channels via the Winegard Flatwave the LCC Kit ( which states its rated for about 50 miles). Now with clear view to a tower only 6 miles away, that 1 channel should in my eyes not be weak via that Antenna connected to LCC device . but that Antenna right into my TV that channel is Crystal Clear.... As for other OTA Channels they range from 35 to 52 miles away and do not have clear line of sight so i know their singal could be most likely be weak.

Re: What is LCC?

I have a similar situation. I have 4 DVRs, a Genie HR44\700, HR24\200, and two HR24\100s. I have three AM21s. I received a LCC which I hoped to hook to my HR44 so I can free up it's AM21. I live 13 miles from the towers that transmit 17 HD channels and the towers are line of sight if I were on my roof.  I use an attic mounted roof antenna with a Motorola signal booster and can get ota HD on all my TV's and on my DVRs that have AM21s.  The LCC is a disappointment. I can only get four channels thru it when using the supplied paddle antenna, and none by connecting to the attic antenna.  This would be a good product if it worked with external antennas

Re: What is LCC?

It works fine with external antennas. At 13 miles you should not be using a signal booster, it can easily overload your OTA tuner. Did you clear out all references to the AM21 on your HR44 before connecting the LCC?

Re: What is LCC?

@TexasBrit

I turned the HR44 off and removed the AM21.  After it rebooted I plugged in the LCC and went through the startup process for ota antenna setup.

Not sure how I would supply a usable signal to the 12 devices (TV's, DirecTV DVRs and non DirecTV DVRs) without a booster but I'm game for suggestions.  I thought I had a fairly well balanced system. I can try an attenuator but my concern is there is one group of 4 channels that have signal strength readings nearing the 50-60  range while the solid channels are only 75-80 (these readings were taken with the AM21). Nothing is maxed out.

Re: What is LCC?

@TexasBrit I did want to say thanks for the insight.  What kind of antenna have you had success with your LCC?  Maybe I'll try a dedicated ota antenna just for the LCC. I'm open to suggestions

Re: What is LCC?

12 devices is a lot but remember the preamp amplifies the noise as much as the signal. It also amplifies any multipath signals.

I use a CM4228 antenna without a preamp. It's a big antenna but my stations are all at 40 miles. VHF performance is just enough on my only VHF station. I have a 4x splitter feeding two TVs, an AM21 and an LCC.

Have you tried the LCC on its own, without the signal booster and the splitters.
