The Playlist screen has been completely revamped and will allow for filtering by program type. This will allow users to easily access recordings instead of scrolling through a long list.
The Playlist menus will be displayed in the left panel and their corresponding pages will be displayed in the right panel. Playlist will initially be sorted based on the latest recordings. When the user presses the “0” key, it will be alphabetically sorted (A-Z). The “0” key is used to toggle the playlist display between latest and alphabetical recordings.
The following are the Playlist left menu options.
Movies/TV Shows/Sports/Kids Zone
- Recordings will be filtered based on genre such as Movies, TV Shows, Sports, and Kids Zone, it will be displayed under each section respectively.
- A new Last Chance page will list all the purchased PPV titles that are set to expire soon.
- This screen will also list recordings that are too old that can be deleted to free HD space if required.
Disk Space Available
The percent of available of disk space free and available for recording will be displayed on the left panel.

Go back to the old Play list design. It was easy to use and no problems. Why fix something that is not broken. The few people commenting on this forum have gone to a lot of trouble to find a place to complain about this change. If you would take a survey of all your customers, you would find just about everyone would not like the new playlist.
DirecTV has made it very clear that they're not going back. Instead they'll take their sweet time tweaking on the new design. If you can't wait, then it's time to explore alternatives.

Yes and now they are merging with Time Warner things will probably only get worse. They certainly don’t seem to care what their customer care about just increased our rates & made a mess of guide

Playlist doesn't show all of the shows that are recorded...but when I go into the categories on the left I can find them. Why are they missing from the "all" section?

I do not like the new Directv Guide. The print is much too small and hard to read from across the room. I liked the old guide much better. Also, when trying to find a specific title of a TV Series that I recorded, they're all under one heading. Again, I liked the previous guide better which listed all recordings, separately! Please give customers the option to revert back to the previous Directv Guide or at the very least, enlarge the print within the new guide - both within the guide and for the description of the TV show/movie!

Once upon many years ago, I developed software for a living. One of the banes of my existence at the time was my (mandated) "user test group." Those folks, who used the software daily, and were also tasked to test changes to the software to make sure it made sense and was a workable change. It's pretty obvious AT&T didn't bother with user tests, because, if REAL users had been involved, all the complaints mentioned about would have been brought out and changes made to resolve them.
AT&T did hardly anyone a service with the changes to the DirecTv menus. The fact some portions don't reliably work is alone enough to shake user confidence. In my case, I'm just restating what I read above, but two things that are greatly annoying are the fact you can't just delete a program from the initial "Recordings" screen, but have to go to the "Playlist", and, even more annoying, once you get to the "Playlist" not being able to find the program you want to delete!
I just re-upped with DirecTv with a whole lot of programming not included (and reduced my monthly by 1/2), which I will have to redo next year. However, if this mess with the menus is still the same next year, I'll definitely be looking at other sources of TV.

One should not make the assumption that the way they think the application should work is the only way possible for a human being to think is best. The group testing it may have been all under 25 and said "this is great; it's just like Netflix..." I'm not on the inside, and I don't know, but I do expect that it was tested. I also think that sometimes final testing is expected to be a rubber stamp and no one has the authority to "stop the truck" on any but "doesn't work at all" type issues.

I hate that when I resume a DVR show and want to rewind a little bit, it automatically jumps to the beginning, unless I wait a half minute before hitting rewind. Can this be disabled?

Agree. So many of us have complained and asked for the directory and recorded list be changed back, but no response. Font is too small. List of recorded shows stinks. You can't click on a show to see upcoming ones - it only gives you that specific show. I'm also looking at DISH.

Oh, they're responding. Slowly. The latest Genie software update (v1104) rolling out now addresses many of the complaints.
