Re: Series manager

I agree with the other folks.  This interface is so bad, I usualy stream from my TV, than deal with the dircttv interface.  I will definitely be canceling my service the second my contract is over.

- Slow scrolling

- No way to see just the channels I pay for.  I have selected the option in the guide to see my channels but there are still 100+ channel ads. to scroll through.  Your marketing folks should be fired for making paying customer scroll numerous ads.  If you aren't happy with the money I already pay, then p!ss off.

- You cant see the Air date of recording.  The episode number means nothing to me.

- In short, finding shows that I can watch at no cost, and figure out what episode of a recording is listed, take WAY to long.  Its not worth the effort.  I can easily navigate local channels, Netflix, Amazon, etc through my TV, and hardly use the Directtv now.  There is no need to continue this service thanks to the miserable UI.

Re: Series manager

Clearly, the only thing to do is Start Over From Scratch !

I won't reiterate all the complaints lodged on these various pages, but I will say that this change is enough to drive me to Comcast - something I would not have believed I would say !  In fact, this gives me good reason to dump my ATT wireless service and move to a cheaper provider as well.

AT&T / DIRECTV it is time to admit the mistake, review the extensive user input (after all, that's what the UI is there for, no?) and resign this awful interface from the Users POV.

I still haven't received the update, but after reading the posts here, I'll consider it a blessing.

Yep - My sentiments exactly. Unusable List, 2am "Paid Program" auto recordings, "Software does not support CC on Vizio TV". One wonders how far DirecTV/ATT are willing to go in an attempt to drive away long-time clients.... !

Re: Series manager

My gripe is on the playlist on the new format.  I hate that the box that pops up when you are on site meth8ng and I do not really care about that.  It makes it confusing when I’m trying to find my show to watch.  If I want to know the information I hit the info key.  I did not want it to pop up with out me hitting the info button. Make it an option fo it to pop up or request it through the setting.  The guide on the is now at 7 lines,  and hard to see.  Make it an option again.  You really know how to screw up things.

Re: Series manager

I have an HR54 and still haven’t received the update. I rebooted and performed the 0-2-4-6-8 sequence to force the software download. The download completed, but it wasn’t the current software. The version it downloaded was 0d8f. Any ideas why my HR54 won’t download the new software?

Because it's not available now.  It's VERY risky to use this technique to force a software download.  Best case you'll just get the same version you already have.  Worst case you'll get beta test software that could wipe out your recordings.

Your HR54 will get the update in due time.  Patience.

Re: Series manager

I don’t understand why it isn’t available now. The rollout began in October and was supposed to be complete in 14 weeks. It’s now March, so the rollout should be complete.

Who said that it "was supposed to be complete in 14 weeks"?  As you know, lots of folks are complaining about the new GUI, so it should be no surprise that they've slowed down the rollout.  I don't have it yet, either, and I'm fine with that.

Yeah. I guess I’m probably lucky that I haven’t received it yet.

Re: Series manager

This is the worst 'improvement' I have ever seen!  Whoever approved this format should be fired immediately.  Give me a choice to go back and I will or I will be dropping Direct TV very shortly.  I don't care how you spin it there is not ONE improvement in the format.  Hard to read washed out look, can't tell how much of the program has been recorded on the bar, and I could go on and on.  It is an unmitigated disaster.  Do you really PAY employees to ruin things?  If so, hire me, I will ruin you quickly.

Re: Series manager

My update just downloaded last night and was active when I got home from work today. I like the new GUI. It’s clean and visually appealing. I haven’t had any issues with functionality, except that I lost some of my recordings overnight.

Re: Series manager

Things I can no longer do which mean I will leave DirecTV even if I have to pay to get out of the contract:

  • SEARCH: Recent items list is no longer alphabetized which make it impossible to find and reuse a search. No sort option available on this screen.
  • PLAYLIST: When viewing the contents of a folder, the sort is no longer alphabetical which is how I got a sort by season and episode and no option to change what seems to be a "Latest" sort. If it's a folder for a series which does not have episodes, the only way to find the episode of a specific date is to look at the INFO for each item in the list. The display of folder contents is about as useless as it gets.
  • GUIDE: No more "Jump to" option to quickly navigate to a date/time
  • GUIDE: If there is an SD and HD version of a channel, I cannot record a series on the SD channel, only single episodes. THIS is absolutely a deal breaker.

Add my voice to the complaints about unreadable screens. I didn't need my glasses to watch TV until this so-called upgrade to the UI arrived. Now I cannot read the screens even with glasses on if I don't move close to the TV.
