Re: Series manager

Hello I have the HR54/200 receiver in my living room and I have not got the new interface yet. The additional receivers in my bedrooms have parts of the new interface in the settings menus but nothing else. Is there a way I can force the update.

ChrisZ,

I see that you have responded to others, can you please pass on my request to have the Directv/ATT engineers remove the dark fade/shade that obscures the lower portion of the screen whenever you hit pause/play/fast forward/rewind, it ruins watching sports/news/financial programs and if not gone by the end of the year will have me looking into a cable with Tivo switch, thanks.

Re: Series manager

I've been with Direct Tv for over 18 years and ATT about as long.  After my contract is over I'lI have no choice but to leave.  My wife and I  can not read the menu.  I tire of having to get up and walk up closer to the TV in order to read the info on a particular movie or program (I have a 60" TV and sit about 10' from the screen) and extremely hard to read everything.. even the time.   I read where the reason for the "upgrade" was to control or reverse the trend of losing customers.  This guide upgrade will unfortunately continue that downward trend.

I truly believe Direct TV should listen to their current customers regarding the menu "upgrade" or their current unsatisfied customers will easily become nothing more than a statistical nightmare.

Thanks for listening....I hope

Re: Series manager

I’m with you sir. I only have a 50in in my living room, and before it wasn’t a problem. Now it’s horrible, and the color choices and everything about it makes it to the point where I will be looking for options to change.

Re: Series manager

DirecTV recently released an update to beta testers that improves the font issue.  Not sure when it will see public release, though.

Re: Series manager

I hope with all this time and investment into this new interface they actually solved some customer problems we have been asking for for years like having access to deleted programs

Re: Series manager

Great point, it is much more time-consuming to get to the recorded series manager.

Another point about recordings. Since you changed 100% of everything, of course the recordings list was changed. In the recording list, there's no need to make the recording that the cursor is on like 6 times bigger. You could list so many more recordings if you didn't do this. Thus, there would be less scrolling.

I work for a MAJOR software corporation. AT&T may not know this but there is a job role called a usability engineer. They are highly trained in how not to irritate customers by making controls functional. Usability is more important than flashy every day of the week with regard to UI interfaces.

Re: Series manager

I just upgraded to Genie 2, and I have instant regret because now I have this insanely bad UI to contend with.

  1. The foreground/background black/gray/white coloring is bad. And along with font choice, makes the text hard to read.
  2. Maneuvering throughout the guide and menus seems to universally take longer.
  3. There's too much whitespace.
  4. The right-hand pane is a hot mess. It's a poorly done ripoff of the Netflix streaming UI. (Which btw, should not be considered a gold standard.)

I would love to go through the entire UI with an engineer at my side pointing out the 100 issues. That's really what you need to do. You need a major overhaul with real user feedback. Or better yet, just a mea culpa, and a return to the perfectly adequate UI would make so many users happy.

Another Genie 2 complaint. With previous Genie when I fast-forward at 1x, pressing play results in playing at the instant I pressed the button. With Genie 2, it backs up a few seconds. With 2x - 4x, the backing up is a great idea. However, it is not needed with 1x. Since 1x is so slow, it's of most use when you want to ffwd a few seconds, but then it backs up a few seconds, and you've gained nothing. You've rendered the 1x ffwd marginally beneficial.

Re: Series manager

since the new menu update occurred,  you cannot record on a specific network affiliate channel.  IE, if you try to record the HD affiliate of CBS in city A, the DVR changes the recording to the SD affiliate of CBS in city B.  I pay too much for this service to go back to watching SD "chopped-off" pictures.  I hope your engineers read this forum.  You need to go back to the old system.

Re: Series manager

Well I just had the new interface shoved on me without asking and no way to get back.  But I really like the fact that they can show me a history folder with 890 recording's but no way to undelete and accidentally deleted program. Who cares about history folder with 800 recordings that I can do nothing with other than just look at.    Everything about this new interface contradicts itself. If you want to clean up the look with a super clean tiny line then why block out the entire lower third of the screen with an ugly black blotch that blocks everything I'm trying to look at. If you're saying you don't have the time or money to undelete a program then why show me a folder with 800 past recording's I can do nothing with.  Another stupid case of change for the sake of change.

Re: Series manager

I agree with the complaints of the missing day and time shows are being recorded. It is especially annoying with daily shows like TDS or The Opposition. Series episodes are annoyingly listed. The format is visually unappealing and hard to see. It's a fail. I am already upset at how much Direct TV keeps increasing its price, this makes me want to switch when my contract is up.
