Closed Captioning again not working Jan 10, 2019

As a person who relies on CC, it’s disappointing when it’s not functional on all channels. Rebooting or resetting doesn’t work. Please check into this!

Thank you,

Hi There! MissusKing

We do understand how important CC(Closed Captioning) is to the hearing impaired community, when it comes to television viewing.  Since you have done the prescribed troubleshooting, we have some information, that we can give you so your voice is heard.

There are many causes why closed captioning doesn't work on all channels.

  • Settings need to be changed.
  • Program doesn't have CC.
  • Program doesn't have CC in Spanish.
  • CC is on from both the TV and the receiver at the same time.
  • Picture-in-Picture from the TV is turned on.

Press the Guide and go to a particular program or move. Does the description have "CC" in the text or icon?

If yes, then make sure that your closed captioning is turned on, if it is, then turn it off, exit out of the menu and turn it back on again.

If not, the program or movie does not have the closed captioning option available.

If the show or movie is in SD, then the closed captioning is handled by the TV.  Use your TV remote(the one that came with your television set), and you should see a "CC" button in it.  Press there and choose "CC1 or CC2"

In any event, these options do not work, you are not without hope. You can make your concern heard, by using the following contact methods:

Re: Closed Captioning again not working Jan 10, 2019

In Salem Oregon we have channel 10 OPB, Oregon Public Broadcasting. Recently, I've tried watching programming that is clearly marked CC however it is not displayed on the screen. All other channels that offer the closed captioning work quite well. But lately PBS is not.
I'm profoundly deaf and I totally rely on closed captioning, I'm getting very disgusted that I'm no longer able to view what PBS offers.
Yes, I've tried all your remedies and none have worked. I'm all geared up to watch the MidWives and Victoria this evening, I do hope the you have repaired this fault and I can enjoy programming that I love.
If I have another evening of no captioning I'll definitely be looking for another provider who won't let me down.

Hi There @MissusKing

Thank you for reaching back out to us.  We understand that you are trying Channel 10(PBS).

Channel 10 is broadcasted in HD so the CC is handled by the cable box.

Let's try this.  First turn off the CC on both the TV Menu and the DIRECTV menu. Now only turn on the Closed Captioning on the cable-box only.

If that doesn't work, please reach back to us and let us know.
