771 Signal Loss on some channels on some TVs but not others

I get the 771 Signal Loss error on some channels on two TVs in the house.  The other TVs in the house receive those channels.

Ran System Diagnostics resulting in Diagnostic Code:  43-243.

Receiver:  H21/100, Software: 0x4736

Re: 771 Signal Loss on some channels on some TVs but not others

Please post your signal readings

You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners. If you have a DVR it's important to check BOTH satellite tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner on the new post you create, using the example below as a guide. (The example below is only an example and not a form that will appear in your post unless you "cut" and "paste" it.) A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

looks like your dish is out of alignment.  best to call DTV and request a service visit.  free with the protection plan otherwise $50.00

Re: 771 Signal Loss on some channels on some TVs but not others

Thank you.  Is it odd to you that the channels I do not get on this TV I am able to receive on a different TV in the same house?  I think I have 8 receivers and only 2 are having 771 problems, on numerous channels on those 2 TVs.  But I can go to a different room in the house and watch that channel.  Strange?

Re: 771 Signal Loss on some channels on some TVs but not others

Try swapping this "bad" Receiver with one of your good Receivers.  If the problem stays with the "bad" Receiver, you can be pretty sure it's defective.  If the problem stays in its room, then something might be wrong with the satellite coax cable feeding that room. .  Let us know what you find.

Re: 771 Signal Loss on some channels on some TVs but not others

Not so strange.  The signal the Directv set top boxes receives is digital, all 0's and 1's.  The nature of a digital signal is that it can be perfect through a wide range of signal strengths but at some point, it drops below a tolerable level.  On the "good" sets the signal strength may be only a single point inside the usable level and on the "bad" set it's one point outside.  Note the numbers on your 99c satellite.  Those should all be in the high eighties or better yet in the mid 90's.
