Loss of Local Channel In The Guide:

Local channels are derived from a combination of a customer billing zip code and ip address. Essentially the ip address a customer is assigned must match their billing zip code to receive the local channels available in that area.  Your ISP determines the ip address that is assigned to your location.

Reasons For Local Channel Loss:

  1. Your dynamic ip address changed. This can result in loss of local channels altogether or wrong locals entirely
  2. You recently moved or traveled outside the area.
  3. Other or unknown reasons.

How To Get Locals Back:

  1. Check that the local channel(s) missing do belong in your area.

  2. Power cycle the device in question by fully unplugging it from the TV and power source, or simply turning it off/on
  3. If that does not work, check to make sure that the billing zip code is correct in your device. You can do this for devices such as Roku and Firestick.
  4. Uninstall/Reinstall the DIRECTV NOW app
  5. Run an ip address trace to make sure your ip address is giving out the correct location.

    2. If it is, you can still reach out to us.
  6. If it is not giving the correct ip address, contact your ISP for further assistance.

What if I still don’t get locals after basic troubleshooting?

  1. That’s no problem, reach out to DIRECTV NOW on FB or Twitter with our hashtag and DIRECTV NOW Help as one word. One of our agents will be glad to help you.

Alternative Solutions:

  1. If you view DIRECTV NOW over multiple devices. You can often view locals on a phone or tablet with GPS enabled. When you use a phone or tablet, with GPS enabled it overrides any ip address for geo-location information.
  2. Not all devices may experience the same loss of local channels, in such cases, watch locals on those devices which can still access them.
