You need to program your att remote to control your tv's on/off, volume (maybe mute too), and possibly input selection. Read the uverse remote's user manual on how to do that. With your tv hooked up to the att dvr or receiver you select channels on the att dvr or receiver not your tv. Using your tv's remote to select channels on that tv will accomplish nothing.
