Why doesn't AT&T notify subs of updates being pushed?

This past Monday we suddenly became aware that our DVR was not recording pre-scheduled programs (series).  When we checked....the schedules were still active...but nothing was being recorded.  I went back to my computer room, where our DVR STB is located, and performed a power-off reboot.  As soon as the reboot was completed the DVR began recording, on its own, and we've had no further problem since then.  Now....the only thing I can think of is that AT&T pushed through an update to the boxes.....did not reboot them....and did not message us subscribers about the update with instructions for US to perform the reboots.

My wife noticed that no red indicator lights were on during a program that was supposed to be recording.  That is what alerted us to the problem.

Rebooting is no big chore but AT&T should post a message on the screen so when we turn the TV on the next morning we are made aware of what happened.

Actually, I found a long time ago that the DVR would quit recording things if left running for a while, so I took to rebooting it every fortnight or two.  That didn't completely fix the problem, but it made it a lot better.

That was many firmware revisions ago, but rather than have someone miss a recording, I still reboot the DVR once or twice a month, just to make sure.  I'd recommend you do the same.

Also, check your TV2 software version and see what it is.  It's easy to tell if you've gotten the new release they've been playing with for the past 6 weeks.

Phil, good ol @JefferMC nailed it.  Some series simply stop recording.  Nothing, as far as I can tell, to do with an update.  They simply stop.  I wonder if they have an expiration date?  I've mentioned my issue with my guilty pleasure "Cheaters."  One day we noticed that the early Sunday morning shows had stopped.  It said 0 scheduled, 0 recorded.  I jotted down all of the parameters, left the series alone and went to the Guide.  I selected to set a series recording from the Guide and everything matched the old one.  The new series shows 2 scheduled.  The name did not change, channel was the same - basically all the same.  Not sure why this happens.

Great suggestion, I will foward it to our equipment team to see if we can make that happen. Can't make any promises, but I like the idea! "
