The wireless receiver can be connected to a different router in one of two ways: 1) Connect the two devices using an Ethernet cable 2) Disconnect the wireless access point (WAP) from the U-verse router and connect it to the router you prefer
The downside to doing this is that, although a picture will be displayed as the wireless signal needed for the wireless receiver to work is broadcast by the wireless access point, the wireless receiver itself will not be able to utilize any DVR functionality (pause, rewind, fast forward, record, access recordings)

Could you relocate the provided WAP closer to the wireless receiver (and still have it connected to your U-verse Gateway)?
