Rebooting the Residential Gateway

I've had U-Verse TV, Internet and Voice for several years. Does rebooting the TV receiver and the Residential Gateway around every month do anything positive to the system. I was told by a technician that rebooting the two every month or so removes errors and keeps the equipment operating efficiently. I haven't had any problems with the equipment and I'm told by doing this I get all the software updates earlier than normal.

I reboot my U-verse TV DVR every 2 to 3 weeks.  It seems to prevent any issues with scheduled recordings not happening.  I leave my RG and other TV Receivers running pretty much all the time without periodic reboots and I have no issues with them.
