New Fire TV Cube With AT&T Uverse workaround for screensaver?

Hello. I was wondering if anyone here has a workaround to get the new fire TV Cube with Alexa to work correctly with AT&T Uverse.. I can get it to change channels but problem is when switching from amazon's fire tv cube to att cable tv.. ATT's screensaver keeps popping up asking me to press "Ok" button to watch tv.. so Alexa cant change channels to I actually press OKAY on the remove control which is annoying and point of the cube was to eliminate the use of remote control

Here @Thrills,

Getting a new piece of equipment is always an exciting time! I will be more than happy to guide you to where you can get information.  After researching into the Fire Cube, I have found a couple of great links to check out!

Have a fabulous day!

I'm having similar problems...THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE U-VERSE CISCO CABLE RECEIVER AND NOT the Amazon Fire Cube!!!!!

The basic problem is the insistence by ATT to shut the cable box down after two hours of non-input to achieve the Energy Star rating. Which is pretty much meaningless for a device with such a small power draw, but that's life. This is compounded by the fact that the IR controls from the Fire Cube appear to be unable to power the Cisco box on and off, which would solve the problem.

This is not Amazon's problem to solve. AT&T, would you be so kind as to give us a hand? The combination of U-Verse and Fire Cube would be nearly perfect except for this glitch.

Thank you!

These links are of no help to the problem.  If you don’t have a specific solution to the problem that the Fire Cube doesn’t turn on the U-verse box, don’t post worthless links to generic information.  One possible solution is to get rid of AT&T.

Actually, it is.  Uverse TV hardware hasn't been updated in eons and don't expect that to change ever.

Amazon should provide skills for their cube to deal with legacy settop boxes. Something like, "Alexa, wake up Uverse."  followed by whatever next thing you want it to do.

The IR blaster will work with the cisco isb7005 and allow you to activate the cable box on with the OK screen saver, but it takes bypassing the initial cable box the fire cube finds that will only change the channels.  Follow the steps below:

1. Go to the manage equipment in equipment control

2. If you have already setup the cable box select it, then select "change cable box".  If you have not then choose "Add Equipment".

3. Follow the steps to have the fire cube find the cable box.

4. When the cube asks if the channel changed, select the option to say that it did not even if it did.

5. The cube should tell you that it will need further information to setup your cable box.  Select the option to continue.

6. You should now be able to select the brand of your cable box.

7.  Follow the directions given by the fire cube until it successfuly changes the channel on the cable box.

9. Ensure that the IR blaster is plugged in and in front of the cable box.

8. Go back to the cable box settings and select the "infared options"

9. Go into the Entry Command screen and select the "OK" option.

10. Exit to home on the fire cube

11. Turn off the cable box

12. Ask Alexa to turn on cable

Good luck.  Hope this works for you as it did for me.

Fantastic, thanks!!!

Coupla things...had to increase IR delay to 300ms or channel entry was bolluxed. Also, I still have to ask Alexa to turn on cable box, which is an improvement from before, when that wasn't possible. I tried the setting that will cycle power when a channel is requested, but that simply turned the box OFF if it was already on. I'm still far better off than I was!

Besides getting the initial setup complete, what’s the experience like?

If att published an API for the settop boxes, they could be controlled by a 3rd party using WiFi.  This is how the U-verse app works today.

I’m going to pickup a Fire HD 7 next time it goes on sale and will use it to control all  the devices I can. The limitation I see presently is having to move between apps to perform different functions which will be awkward at first.
