My DVR keeps rebooting, need help

I have been with att uverse for a few months now. Power went out 4 days ago and since then our bedroom wireless dvr has been constantly rebooting. Lights randomly flash, it cycles thru and sometimes I even get to see 15 seconds of tv before it says no signal and starts over again. Att support didn't find any problem so they sent another receiver and the second i get it connected to the network it starts rebooting too. A second call to customer support results in them wanting to send a technician so before they do I wanted to check here to see if anyone had any tips or advice before I get charged $99 for them to come out and tell me its something my fault.

There has been no issue at all with our living room tv and dvr or internet and wireless access. I have rebooted the modem and wap and even plugged the dvr into another outlet. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you!!

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

I'm now having this issue as well. Wireless receiver keeps rebooting. Unplugged the power on the DVR upstairs that is wired to the gateway, and the wireless receiver hasn't rebooted yet.

The wired DVR does have full functionality itself. Very annoying.  Not sure what the best thing to do is...

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

I was having the same problem with my isb7005: it would play for 10 - 15 seconds then reboot. I tried to reboot the WAP and the receiver and it didn't help. I chatted with a representative and they sent me a new receiver (no WAP). Same cycling happened. Chatted again and they sent me a new WAP. Set it up and the same thing happened (on, reboot, on reboot, etc.)

But I found a kind of weird way around it: if I was recording on my wired DVR the wireless receiver would stay on and not cycle. I have no idea why that worked, but it did. Well, that stopped working yesterday after I had moved the receiver to another TV. Now it won't even get to the 10 seconds of tv time; it shows the three dots, all three lights on the front of the box light up (the signal strength bar shows three bars in orange. This hadn't happened previously) and the screen goes back to the 'no signal' display. If i let it go, it just repeats this process.

I've tried everything in this thread: rebooting everything. Rebooting without the wired receiver plugged in. Rebooting while pushing the 'reset' button on the WAP. So I have no idea what to do. Any other ideas outside of a tech visit? This is getting pretty frustrating. AND to make it worse the wireless receiver is for my 'big' TV. And it stopped working the day before the Super Bowl? Awesome.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

Was on chat with technical support last night.

They had me unplug the box, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, and when it showed the three dots on the screen, unplug.  Did this three our four times, and I haven't had any issues since.

I did this on the wireless box.  Worth a try.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

Unplugged it three or for times in a row (three dots, unplug, plug in. three dots, unplug, plug in) or let it run through the cycle and when the 3 dots come up for the second time unplug?

Once the three dots show, unplug. Wait 10 seconds, plug back in. Repeat two more times.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

After nothing in this thread helped, i have a tech coming out today. I was told by Community Support that my gateway is re-initializing and there seems to be nothing wrong with my receivers. I guess we'll see what happens.

The tech replaced my Gateway and wireless receiver. Now everything seems to be working fine.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

I was having the same problem.  I have a VIP2250 DVR, three wired VIP1200s, and two wireless ISB7005s STBs.  Two of the wired and one of the wireless STBs were rebooting continuously.

The problem was fixed by:

1) unplugging the DVR

2) getting each STBs working, then turning them off (standby)

3) plug-in the DVR and wait till it completely rebooted

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

this is NOT a unique situation. it has happened to me 3 times in the last 4 years! today will be the 4th time. it is the access point or the dvr that has to be replaced. you should really find more robust equipment to give your customers.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

I just unplugged my wireless receiver to move it outside to watch Soccer (FIFA championship) and I am experiencing the same issue, the wireless receiver keeps rebooting.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the receiver started rebooting itself after I unplugged it and tried to move it outside.

I made sure it was in standby mode before I unplugged it but I do remember the DVR in the other room was on, am not sure what the proper way is if there is one

Anyone have a solution to this?  I tried all the steps suggested in this thread but no luck.

They are sending a tech out in a few days to check it.

Thank you

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

I'm not sure if my power went out or not. All I know is that one night it was working fine, and the next evening when I came home from work, it was doing this freezing and rebooting thing. Today is day 3, and a tech is scheduled to come over tomorrow. I only have 1 TV in my household so I can't really answer the question "Is it just one TV or all of them?" I'll let ya'll know what the tech ends up doing.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

I'm having the same problem, STB all continuous rebooting. Called support, they said a tech will have to come out, and they have never heard of this problem. ??? Is that a standard answer everyone seems to be getting with this issue? It's been down 2 days. It started after lightning passed over our area, and a quick power outage.

Anyhow, I tried rebooting everything several times with no luck in resolving the issue. I did unplug the DVR, and for a time the wireless boxes seemed to work. Plugged DVR back in, and now all boxes are constant rebooting cycle again.

I have 4 boxes total. 2 wired, 2 wireless. The DVR box, through all of this scenario has seemed to continue working fine. It's the other 3 that all keep doing the reboot. Last attempt I made, one STB has a red X in middle of the screen? BTW, internet, wifi etc all fine.

Does this sound familiar? Hopefully someone can help out. Sadly, our service through AT&T has been troublesome since we got it, seems like it's one problem after another.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

Hi @johnmi,

I am sorry about the issues you are having. It does sound like there may be an issue with the DVR causing the other receivers to reboot. One thing worth trying is rebooting the DVR to see if that will help. To do so, just unplug the power on the DVR, wait 10 seconds, and plug the power back.

If still having problems, you may want to try a non-destructive disaster recovery on the DVR. To do so:

  1. Unplug the power on the DVR
  2. Plug the power back
  3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 three more times.
  4. You should see a gear come up on the screen.
  5. Let it go through the startup. It may take several minutes.

Hope this helps.

Re: My isb7005 dvr keeps rebooting, need help

I am having a similar issue as frackgirl33. My dvr has been rebooting since Thursday night. I dont think I lost power (I was not home), but there was a heavy thunderstorm. I unplugged the box Thursday night as the box was really hot from rebooting every 2-5 minutes. Attempted to plug it back in yesterday morning with no success. I have tried rebooting myself by pressing the power button for 10 seconds, I have tried hitting the reset button on the back of the wireless box, I have unplugged from the wall, and I have tried unplugging the box, waiting for all 3 lights to appear and plugging back in the 3 times. The dvr box has stopped rebooting, but now it is frozen. There is a picture on the tv but I cant even adjust the volume. Any other suggestions besides getting the dvr replaced?
