No ideal as other info provided is correct....
Unless you also talked about changing your package,
Each receiver beyond DVR is $9
Adding HD is $10,
moving from to ufamily to u200 (To get sports like ESPN) $15,
or u200 to u300 (to get Movie Package) would be $15,
moving from u300 to u450 is $32 (get HD and HBO/Cin)
Adding HBO/Cin to lower package is $26.
For a $35 month change sounds as if adding one receiver $9+ HBO/Cin $26.
Just my thoughts

Are you being ripped off?
I do not know, are you helping to pay any of the Uverse bill now?
If not, perhaps the roommate is asking you to pay some of the Uverse bill plus the receiver for your room. This is logical to me,broommate splitting cost.
Also there is the additional cost for installation ($99) if tech required visit for hardwired receiver or $49 one time fee for wireless receiver plus the $9 receiver fee plus associated tax. These costs may not have been made clear, and your roommate may have cost averaged these in determining a price.
An example , misunderstanding of fees, $99 tech visit fee plus $49 wireless fee plus $9 per month for say 6 months left on contract (99+49+(6*9)=202/6 months=$33.67 plus still need tax money round to $35).... How did your roommate arrive at the cost is the question.

I like the previous provider theory - Cable companies charge about $35 for an HD box. Or, once did. That would be what comes to mind for a quick answer.
Hopefully, as the process exposed actual costs, you would pay actual cost.
If you are feeling that you are not paying fair share, you could ask for an audit - Maybe call it a Reagan - Trust, but Verify.

Ok one more question. We have a box/reciever in our living room. I spoke to someone and they told me that for an extra box for another room would be $35 a month. What box are they referring to?
@ghosthost407, pricing information is available on line.
Locate that information on the ATT website and show it to your roomie. This is what we would call 'a come to Jesus meeting'.

OK real reason I'm asking all these questions is I am the roommate. When we got our service cable and Internet/WiFi we got one receiver box for our TV in the living room. My friend said if I wanted cable for the TV in my bedroom it would be an extra $35 a month for another receiver box. But it should really only be $9 a month to have cable in my room. I think I'm being ripped off here. :/
From the website:
Wireless Receiver: A one-time fee of $49 and a monthly recurring fee of $9 per wireless receiver apply. Wireless from the Wireless Access Point to the Wireless Receiver; power outlet and separate connection of Wireless Receiver to TV is required. For residential use in a single household only. Limit of 2 Wireless Receivers per household. Customer responsible for use of Wireless Receiver. Actual range of wireless signal will vary and may be limited by several factors including, but not limited to electromagnetic interference, home construction material, obstructions, and other environmental factors.
Perhaps your friend is trying to profit from this arrangement.

@chiefdore This thread is over a year old and I had no recollection of even posting on it! I'm old (be nice) and can't remember what happened last week much less that long ago. I literally had to re-read this entire thread to recall even replying.
That being said, I certainly hope that the OP worked things out with the roommate or perhaps they just moved on (or moved out).
