Correct way to wire Uverse receiver without Uverse internet

Before last week, I was a Uverse internet and TV subscriber. I dropped ATT internet in favor of a faster/cheaper ISP. After calling to cancel Uverse internet, the rep advised to send back the 2wire router/gateway so I disconnected it only to find that now my Uverse TV no longer works. I'm getting a blue Uverse screen with a spinning circle in the lower right screen. I have a couple questions that I've been trying to find out from ATT Tech Support without any luck so far:

1. Is it necessary to connect the DVR/Receiver to the ATT Gateway.

1a. If so, do I need to connect my new ISP router to the ATT Gateway.

1b. If not, can I connect my Uverse coaxial cable directly to the receiver.

2. Should I instead I connect the DVR/Receiver to my new ISP router?

TIA

Reconnect the DVR to the att router & reconnect that to the incoming wiring.

The new ISP connection is seperate. The two services should not connect to each other.
