Amazon Fire TV

Can I plug my Fire TV into my U-verse set top box? I've plugged the fire tv hdmi cable into the U-verse set top box however when i change the input to "HDMI" nothing happens.

You certainly can, and you've obviously done so.  However, doing so is not useful.

The HDMI port on the U-verse TV-Receiver is an output port.  The HDMI port on the Fire TV Stick is an output port.  Hooking two outputs together doesn't do anything. You need to find an available HDMI input port on your TV to hook your Fire TV Stick to.

Ok that makes sense. My issue was my surround sound it hooked up to my set top box and when my fire tv was hooked up I wasn't getting any sound. Looks like I need to reconfigure my surround sound and hook it back to the TV so all outputs can be used. Thanks!

If your TV and Amplifier have the HDMI audio return channel feature, that might be the way to go here.
