credit checks existing customers to move exact same services?

I am am existing customer. You ran TWO hard credit checks on me Last year one for AT&T and one for your bundled partner, Direct TV when I established my new services by switching from other carriers to you. Now I am moving 3 blocks and want to transfer my exact same services and equipment, no changes, no additions, no upgrades and first AT&T tells me they have to run another hard hit credit inquiry then 15 minutes later Direct TV thinks they are going to hard hit my credit again? Your services are partnered and bundled an you can’t use the same one run for the same move? And WHY are you running credit checks on existing customers to move services in the first place, no changes, upgrades, additions and only a year later? Well, guess what, not just no, but he’ll no, you’re not dropping my credit score with foolishness. Instead I can drop you and your partner, Direct TV. I agreed to the first set of credit checks to establish services a year ago and I even agreed to One being put through for this transfer of services, but no, I will Not allow you and Direct TV to run two hard hit credit checks with 30 min of one another simply to move my already established services! This is insane.

Hi there @Pam0624

We understand where you're coming from. However, if the system requires a credit check, then we have to run a credit check. We don't have a way of circumventing it. We apologize for the frustration this has caused you and hope you'll decide to stick with us!

they just said the same thing to me last week!!!!!  Why are you running credit checks on existing customers?????  Bought a new house and wanted to request the transfer of services before I closed to minimize the down time.  Rep told me they needed to run credit checks again!!!!!  FOR WHAT?????  I'M ALREADY A CUSTOMER!!!  Bye AT&T and Directv!!!!!

Absolutely ridiculous.  Rep told me they run them at a minimum every 2 years so right when the earlier inquiry is dropping off....BAM!  They hit you with another one.

Yes, same issue here. AT&T ran a credit check 6 months ago when I started the internet service.

Nevermind that I've been a wireless customer for 10+ years, paid bills promptly etc.

What kind of credit risk is a monthly internet service of $50/month?

I've filed a complaint against this business practice with the FCC. You might consider doing the same.
