When is Faster AT&T Speed Going to be Available? - Info from the AT&T Community

Internet_Fiber.jpg

Learn why faster AT&T speeds may not be available

First thing first, AT&T is working on expanding internet service as fast as possible. Unfortunately, a lot of planning, equipment, manpower, and time factor in. When are faster speeds coming? We do not have a date. What we can do is explain why it may not be available, yet, what to look out for, and how to research your address.

Gigabit Speeds, When Is It Coming?

We are continually expanding our fiber footprint to more households every day. If you’d like to check if service is available to you now or to sign up for a notification if it does become available in the future, please visit att.com/NotifyMe . We will send you a notification via your preferred method as soon as AT&T Fiber becomes available to you.

5 Gig internet is the next evolution of internet. At this time, we are working on expanding that footprint but AT&T does not have information on which neighborhoods will get it and when. Our support teams are also unable to give timelines as they can change.

If AT&T Fiber is available, you can order now!

Note:  AT&T Internet is not available in all areas, but AT&T is working to change that! Below, you will find information explaining:

  • Why services may not be available?
  • Other AT&T internet options?
  • News about AT&T Fiber expansions?

Why AT&T Internet is not available

  1. Distance – AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you are too far away from the equipment, certain services may not be available. This means your neighbor may have service but your home cannot.
  2. Equipment is not available – To get service, AT&T Internet equipment has to be in the area. In some instances, it isn't. As above, this could mean a neighbor may have it but service was not expanded to your home. We do not have information if or when it will be. If you have 1 Gig Fiber and want to upgrade to 5 Gig, please be patient with us we work to expand that footprint.
  3. The area is not built for AT&T Internet/ Fiber – some areas are not internet ready. The Community team does not have information if or when it will be since installation is factor dependent as mentioned at the top of the page. Distance and equipment can also play a factor in instances like this.
  4. Another competitor services the area - This happens from time to time but it does not mean all services are not available to you. Check out other internet options below!
  5. For some internet services, what is offered during the point of sale is an estimate. Most of the time, what is offered will be installed. To determine if service is available, our techs will perform tests beforehand and let you know of any issues.

Note: AT&T has two ways to bring traditional internet to your home, via copper lines or fiber. To get Gigabit speeds, fiber is required. In order to get internet and/or higher speeds, you must be within a certain distance of the serving equipment and the equipment must be present in the area.

I see they are spraying lines, is AT&T on the way?

Maybe. Marking locations is a best practice for most outside crews. They are used to mark an area where a gas line may be or even a water line. On the other side, it could mean AT&T is going to place cable. Until cable and everything that powers internet is placed, our internal systems will not be updated. You can fill out a form, shown below, for more information.

This is a post i authored in 2014 and still rings true

An Answer to: " why was i told i can get U-verse but cant"

I see alot of post regarding this topic, The salesman told me this or told me that, I was told i can get X speed but can only get lower. So i will break down how it is determined if or what services you get to the best of my ability So heres a picture and scroll down past the picture for the explanation. I pulled this off the Internet and did a quick  30 second paint edit

loop electronics.jpg

Ok so the red circle represent a typical 3000 foot radius that is used to determine if you are within that range for service, in a perfect world this would be fantastic.

However the radius does not depict true cable length, the blue line represents a non typical but likely scenario as you can see the way the cable runs that the folks in the top half of the screen would show in the ordering system as eligible but when the installer arrives and runs tests he unfortunately has to deny service due to the extreme cable length.

Cable length comes into consideration when determine speed and the circle gets smaller as you go up in speed service. This causes some confusion to customers when they are told they can get 45mb Internet and then are told something else by installers when they arrive. It may not be the optimal way to do this but Ive been told by competitors that they use a same type of system to determine speeds also.

Why is the cable run this way? well 50-60-70 years ago these were placed for telephone only, it was run this way to be the most economical way to provide telephone to every house and houses in the future. And length of cable was not a concern with dial tone.

Hope this sheds some light on this subject, im sure im not the first nor will i be the last to post on this topic.

This doesn't tell me why my neighbor is able to get it, and why I have an AT&T cable running through my back yard which comes right into my living room, but AT&T doesn't provide me with internet.

Also, I have searched and don't find anywhere to sign up to be notified when it's available at my house. I'm EXTREMELY frustrated with my current internet provider, and am EXTREMELY angry that AT&T was actually going to charge me an early cancellation fee if my contract had not expired when I moved even though I WANTED to transfer my service (it was not my fault they didn't provide service to the home I chose). I was happy with my internet service, and would like to have it again and don't understand why the house 200 feet away from me has it and I can't. It makes no sense. Miss Dig found your cable when I put in my fence, too, but you won't give me the service. What do I need to do...hook it up myself and prove you wrong? You give me DirectTv.

All the info you need was posted above by @ATTU-verseCare including links to get notified, upcoming services and availability. its not really about cables coming to your house so much as the length of the cable.

Thank you - I did receive a private response and commitment for follow-up. I realize other members can't obviously see private response and wanted to make sure they knew I got one. .

Hi. I've had AT&T internet for probably a good fifteen years. The internet is below average for sure. I get freezing and can't stream video with eaze. This is a problem because everything needs to be on the internet. I had a 18 GB plan. My Google internet system tests the internet connection at no higher than 16 GB daily. To make matters worse Direct TV didn't tell me that when I upgraded my satellite receivers that they would also need to use the internet. I NEED faster speed for internet. Comcast runs up to 200 GB's. The past two days the AT&T workers were installing fiber cable in front of my condo building. Can you tell me if there is any update that's going to be available for me to get higher speeds?? My address is *** Chicago Illinois 60616. HELP!!!

My neighborhood is all townhouses, the next group of houses to one side has AT&T Fiber, yet my group does not.  The pedestal is within 300 feet of the house.  I cannot deal with Spectrum any longer, but the only thing I'm being offered is 25Mb/s DSL (which people keep trying to tell me IS fiber.)  I've worked in IT for 20 years, I know that's not fiber.  That's DSL over copper.  I've tried calling and talking to people on the phone, but I keep getting some call center in the Philippines, where there is a very severe language barrier and they don't seem to truly understand what I'm asking for.  Is there someone at a Raleigh, NC office that could come out and take a look at things to see what we need to do?
