When is Faster AT&T Speed Going to be Available? - Info from the AT&T Community

Learn why faster AT&T speeds may not be available

First thing first, AT&T is working on expanding internet service as fast as possible. Unfortunately, a lot of planning, equipment, manpower, and time factor in. When are faster speeds coming? We do not have a date. What we can do is explain why it may not be available, yet, what to look out for, and how to research your address.

Gigabit Speeds, When Is It Coming?

We are continually expanding our fiber footprint to more households every day. If you’d like to check if service is available to you now or to sign up for a notification if it does become available in the future, please visit att.com/NotifyMe . We will send you a notification via your preferred method as soon as AT&T Fiber becomes available to you.

5 Gig internet is the next evolution of internet. At this time, we are working on expanding that footprint but AT&T does not have information on which neighborhoods will get it and when. Our support teams are also unable to give timelines as they can change.

If AT&T Fiber is available, you can order now!

Note:  AT&T Internet is not available in all areas, but AT&T is working to change that! Below, you will find information explaining:

  • Why services may not be available?
  • Other AT&T internet options?
  • News about AT&T Fiber expansions?

Why AT&T Internet is not available

  1. Distance – AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you are too far away from the equipment, certain services may not be available. This means your neighbor may have service but your home cannot.
  2. Equipment is not available – To get service, AT&T Internet equipment has to be in the area. In some instances, it isn't. As above, this could mean a neighbor may have it but service was not expanded to your home. We do not have information if or when it will be. If you have 1 Gig Fiber and want to upgrade to 5 Gig, please be patient with us we work to expand that footprint.
  3. The area is not built for AT&T Internet/ Fiber – some areas are not internet ready. The Community team does not have information if or when it will be since installation is factor dependent as mentioned at the top of the page. Distance and equipment can also play a factor in instances like this.
  4. Another competitor services the area - This happens from time to time but it does not mean all services are not available to you. Check out other internet options below!
  5. For some internet services, what is offered during the point of sale is an estimate. Most of the time, what is offered will be installed. To determine if service is available, our techs will perform tests beforehand and let you know of any issues.

Note: AT&T has two ways to bring traditional internet to your home, via copper lines or fiber. To get Gigabit speeds, fiber is required. In order to get internet and/or higher speeds, you must be within a certain distance of the serving equipment and the equipment must be present in the area.

I see they are spraying lines, is AT&T on the way?

Maybe. Marking locations is a best practice for most outside crews. They are used to mark an area where a gas line may be or even a water line. On the other side, it could mean AT&T is going to place cable. Until cable and everything that powers internet is placed, our internal systems will not be updated. You can fill out a form, shown below, for more information.

I just moved into a new home we built, located in The Galleries in Crown Point, IN.  The only internet service offered is 50 Mbs internet speed. It is slow and varies down to 25 Mbs at times.  When are we getting Fiber? I moved from an area that had Xfinity Internet and the speed was much more amazing. I did not even have to purchase the fastest available. it was reliable and fast. I never had to complain with Xfinity.

AT&T is monopolizing our area, yet not offering the best service possible.

I have had AT&T Wireless service for a very long time. I need to know how soon we can get Fiber Internet service in our area.

Thank you.

I live in Southwind, which is a gated community in Memphis which currently does not have ATT fiber. Many of the surrounding areas have ATT fiber network, but only options for our community are ATT DSL or Comcast. Wanted to find out how we, as a community, could request ATT to come in and deploy a fiber network.

Trying to see what we could do to facilitate this, i.e. :

if we had x number of people sign something saying they would sign up?

could we as a community hire a subcontractor to install the local network?

or any other options I haven't mentioned.

Thanks,

David C.

In McDonough, GA - I'm on a dead-end unpaved road  about 3/4 mile from Kelleytown Rd.  Cable is available on Kelleytown, but not on my road, so only internet options are DSL and Satellite.  My max DSL speed for years has been 3.0Mbps, and AT&T last month downgraded that to 1.5M.  Customer service claims that one additional household subscribed to DSL on my street, resulting in the system not being able to provide the 3.0 speed.  I find that hard to believe - no new houses on my street, only about a dozen houses total.  They did say the monthly charge is $5 less than for the 3.0 - oh boy yay.

The customer service person told me AT&T actually wanted to just cancel all DSL, but FTC wouldn't let them.  The 3.0 speed is not adequate, and 1.5 is useless.  I guess since FTC wouldn't let them cancel, they're trying to get us to cancel ourselves.  Can nothing be done?  If AT&T wants to get rid of DSL, I get that - but have fiber or reasonable alternative (other than cell) in place first.  Internet is no longer a luxury - it's a necessity as much as electricity and other utilities.  Something needs to be done.

Oh, and perhaps the customer service people could stop telling me they also have same problem.

How do I request my neighborhood for an internet service upgrade or at least a review?

I live in a populated area and all we have access to is DSL (up to 6mbps) and it is really slow. My fiancé and I both work from home and we can barely be on the internet at the same time. I have had an AT&T internet tech come out related to our DSL service having issues and I asked him why we don't have it. He did some checking and when he came back to me he said it is a simple equipment swap and the infrastructure/fiber is already there, so he is not sure why the neighborhood only has DSL availability and it hasn't been upgraded yet.

Please help! Who do I call, email, petition, etc.? Thank you in advance!

When are ya'all planning to offer UVERSE TV and high speed Internet to 77494?  I will never put a dish on my house, so currently I am left with no other option than Comcast.  I left them after 25 years due to their poor customer service, and was very happy with AT&T Uverse the past two years until recently when I moved right outside of your service area.  I was forced to go back to Comcast, and cannot wait to leave them again.  Hopefully you are working on that and it will be soon, many of my neighbors feel the same way, but sadly, right now Comcast is the only provider we have here.

I see that my city under the ZIP code of 90247 has AT&T Fiber available but somehow not for my neighborhood. My mom spoke with customer service to upgrade our internet from 18mbps to 25mbps and the lady on the phone stated "You guys have fiber optics installed so i could change the speed almost instantly without you needing a technician." Any reason why 😕 i live up north of my city and this is occuring

Hey there AT&T - I called a couple weeks ago to inquire if the Fiber rollout in Gardena, CA is done or if it is still ongoing, but they couldn't give me a straight answer.  Currently plugging in random addresses to see where it is available tells me it is only available in the 4 most North Western blocks and of course I'm closer to the South Eastern side.  So, am I going to be able to give you some money, and you give me some fiber internet soon?

 Thanks,

Josh

Thanks for reaching out and I apologize for the delayed response. I am sorry but we are unable to offer a specific date as to if or when the U-verse Internet services area available to your address. You can use this link http://soc.att.com/2oOwVb4 to be notified as soon as we do get the services available to your address. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks! Over 2 years ago my front yard was dug up for fiber optics to be ran down my street. After the crews were done the drainage was destroyed by the equipment. I have to say when it was installed I was looking forward to getting better "faster" service however we still do not have fiber optic internet and the DSL service is becoming the equivalent to dial up. It seems if you were planning on destroying someone's yard and subsequent drainage there would be a plan in place to get the service active. However after asking servicemen there is no plan in the near future to do so. As it stands my DSL service is only available at one of the lower tiers having a child who is home schooled and is required by his cirriculum to upload videos and download large files it becomes harder and harder as more and more people are put on the same port and our service gets slower and slower. When will fiber optic service be available after over two years it seems it should already online.
