No longer automatically logged into the community

All of a sudden, last week, I found that I must log in everytime I come to the community.  This is a change that I cannot seem to solve.  I checked the setting and it is set for auto log-in.  But everytime I now come to the community Log-in is required.  My PC still remembers the I.D. and password so, at least, all it takes is a couple of clicks.  I don't have to type everything in again.  But that was not necessary until last week.  I find it difficult to believe that it had anything to do with the techs coming to the house to work on our system but I believe that is about when it started.  Can't imagine why that would be.   Any ideas....anyone?

Nope.  I use FireFox.  Currently it is FF 18 and has been that version for several months.

I have absolutely no understanding as to why this inquiry post got moved to this section of the forum.  The subject matter certainly does not fit with other posts here.  I believe it belonged where I put it.....which I did after some consideration.

Delete all history including coolies. If it still does not fix, do a websearch on "Firefox not remembering password" or "Firefox not remembering sites logged into". One of the fixes involves deleting a couple of files that seem to tend to get corrupted every now and then with FF.

Re: No longer automatically logged into the community

Phil - someone on the ACE forum mentioned having to log in each time, with FF.

Re: No longer automatically logged into the community

dhascall it is a long term issue since FF3.x, that still has not been resolved. Depending on the OS, will be where the two files that hold that info need to be deleted.

As I stated before, do a search of the two statements, and it should five you the link to mozilla's support article, in how to resolve this issue.

Latest FF is 19.02 right now Phil, came out last week, Secunia PSI let me know.  Didn't have to log in on FF or Aurora, stay logged in all the time. Smiley Wink

Re: No longer automatically logged into the community

OK.....thanks all.   I'll give the suggestions a go and see what happens.   It's kind of strange that this would happen rather suddenly.   Couple of other little quirks have popped up also but it's late and I'm tired so I'll save them for a later time.

Oh yes......yep, I'm using my laptop....in the living room.  I rarely take it with me anywhere else.  These days I use my smart phone (which I resisted buying for so long) to check my E-mail etc. when we're away from the house.

I appreciate my thread being moved back here where I originally put it.  Thanks.

Re: No longer automatically logged into the community

OK......I took suggestions.  I've done three things:

#1  Upgraded FF and it jumped to version 20 (beta).

#2  I uninstalled an app that I've been using for a while.....called "Don't Track Me".  It is supposed to prevent anyone or any site tracking where I go on-line.   It's gone now.

#3  I ran CCleaner and dumped the cookies.

Result?  Well....initially no help.....but then, today, either because of these changes....or the gremlin got tired and left town....I no longer have to log in everytime I come to the forum.  The auto-log-in is working fine.   Thank you all for your help.

Re: No longer automatically logged into the community

Probably the Don't Track Me plug in. My guess is that it was deleting cookies when you quit Firefox (which it's supposed to do), and that was causing the requirement to log in every time, because it wasn't differentiating between cookies it should delete and cookies it shouldn't.

Try the plug-in Ghostery instead. It uses a whitelist to prevent tracking from known tracker cookies and domains, but won't interfere with the cookies for forum logins and site preferences.

Thanks for the info S.J.    I'll give Ghostery a try.
