UverseTV STB update without notice & drastic changes to On Screen TV Guide!

During last night's (10:25pm Pacific time Oct 19th) set top box (STB) firmware update, the Channel Short Cuts function for the on screen tv guide was eliminated.  That means you can NO LONGER view tv channels by category to see what's on at any given time, e.g. SPORTS, NEWS, VARIETY, MOVIES, LOCAL, GOVT, etc

There were many ON SCREEN GUIDE CHANGES for which Uverse TV customers didn't receive any notification of + TV service was interrupted for 5 to 7 minutes during tv prime time watching.  Yet customers receive plenty of promotional Uverse emails, but no notification of a very serious change to the STB functionality?

Also, my Favorite channels were deleted & I had to manually restore them.

This comes <2 weeks after a Uverse Residential GW firmware update deleted the 2 WiFi networks I had configured.  A tech had to be dispatched to recreate them as no one at the 800 # or any tech managers were aware of the bug in the Res GW update that deleted configured WiFi channels and reset the WiFi AP/Router in the GW to the single default WiFi network & password.

mkolina - Do you mean the On-demand section?? There have been many complaints about it as it rolls out. Do you know you can return to a list format?? When you are in any section, there is a three element menu on the left. The bottom icon toggles between the two views.

Press the Menu button on your remote and go down to "Channel Shortcuts".

-OR-

From the Guide screen, press enter (bottom right button on remote) and go down to "Channel Shortcuts"

Hi @Tvlife101,

Channel Shortcuts can be found by pressing Menu. Under the Live tab, you will see Channel Shortcuts lists.

For favorites, you can still add and edit by pressing Zoom or CC depending on the remote you have. Both buttons are located on the bottom right of the remote.

They didn't remove the Channel Shortcuts feature.  You can access it when on the Guide page.

Guide>Enter/Zoom Button (bottom right on remote)>Channel Shortcuts.

I registered for the forum just to provide this feedback - I am THAT frustrated. The previous Menu navigation system on the set-top box was not bad, but it seems the set-top box software has recently been "upgraded." Under the new software I find navigation to be much less intuitive, require significantly more "clicks," and overall slower than before. Its frustrating and aggrivating.

The basic channel guide features seem unchanged, but everything  under the "MENU" function is different/worse than before.

Why the change?

Can you go back??

You must be seeing something that I don't see.  Everthing that I see is basically the same.

The charges on my u-verse tv and internet bill was just raised by $28.04 bringing the total to $119.13. I am almost 80 years old and on social security, we do not get $28.00 increases each month.  I understand from the news social security recipients are not getting an inrease of even 2% in 2016 because gasoline prices have come down.I ask you how far do I drive these days to enjoy such a benefit? My medical insurance is going up again next year. No Medicare is not free as a lot of people would like to believe. Yesterday I spent 30 minutes on the phone with AT&T and was told to call a different number from 800-288-2020 to get a new promotional rate. I called 877-*** yesterday and a female put me hold while she looked at my old bills. She came back on the phone and asked me to look at my old bills so we would both "be on the same page" when I asked her why we were doing this, I needed a new promotional rate, she said she would check the rates. She put me on hold for some time and eventually hung up on me.  Today I called 877-*** and told the male I needed a new promotion rate, he told me he could definitely help me. He asked about the email speed and what I watched on the tv and told me he could update both for a considerable amount more than $119.13.  I thanked him for being a fool, and hung up.  Next I called again and talked with a female, she also said she could help with a new promotion.  After many questions and putting me on hold, the best she could do was $5.00 for next month's bill.  Are all of AT&T employees this inept or is it just the ones that I have talked to.  If there is no promotional rate why not just say so instead of putting me on hold so I have spent abot 2 hours of my time talking with AT&T with no results.

Hi @walter123.  Promotions do expire and there is no guarantee that you will receive the exact same one that you had before.  Yes, 2016 will be hard on seniors (and those who are on disability) with no Cost of Living increase.

I have two "best bets" for getting a better deal. 1) Call the 2020 # and say "Cancel my service."  You will be connected with retentions.  Instead of discussing the Social Security increase (or lack thereof), tell the specialist that Comcast, Time Warner, Dish, whoever has a SUPER deal.  They usually will give you a nice deal OR 2) I would recommend that you send a private message to the escalation team at AT&T Customer Care, and someone will get in touch with you.

It does take time.  I often spend 15-30 minutes on the phone to get a better deal.  Good luck.

The Shortcut function is missing.  Does anyone know how to locate this function under the new Menu setup?  If it has been taken away, please bring it back.

I've noticed that the new menu doesn't have a couple of options that I used daily. I am missing the channel shortcuts feature on the main menu. This was such an easy way to access specific programming without scrolling through hundreds of channels. I am also missing the option to move channels on my favorites list. I used to be able to lump together the networks that I watch the most. Now they are spread out over hundreds of channels. I am not interested in creating multiple favorites lists.  Please tell me if there is still a way to do this. I'm not a big fan of this change and it will certainly be a factor in deciding to continue with cable tv when my contract is over this summer. We have stayed with the high cost of cable tv basically for convenience but we may make the jump to other options because of these changes in service. Hopefully, I just haven't found a way to access these features. Someone please advise!
