What's with the price increases to the U-Verse Internet plans?

I signed up for the AT&T U-Verse High Speed Internet Elite plan in September 2013. It started at $34.95. Since that was an introductory deal, I understood why the price raised to $46.00 a year later. However, I just received my bill for this most recent period, and I see it's asking for $53.83. I haven't changed my service at all, so I have no idea why it's suddenly charging more. Not only that, but when I looked into other plans, there was fine print that said the charges for the U-Verse internet plans would be increasing by $1.00/month starting in February 2015. Does AT&T have a good explanation as to why they're increasing prices left and right? Am I missing something? In any case, it looks like a new year may mean a new internet provider.

I remember, when the cable/internet/phone bill cost us roughly $60.00-75.00, back in the 2003-2007 times, and it is bothering me, that we have more then doubled those bills, and yet, our pay checks may have gone up an average of $65.00 a month, so, where is it, that we are able to keep any of our hard earned money, when these mogul companies are suckin us dry!?

Their smartest thing to do is, drop the prices about $50.00(In other words, go from like $200.00 a month, to roughly $150.00 for the bundles.) AFTER the deal drops.  Actually do the right thing, since, they are obviously not going to lose that much money, but, it is going to look a lot better in the consumers eyes, and in the competetors eyes, they will start freaking out, that is for sure!  Not to mention, the customers will start raking in, as well!

They will probably only think about lowering the rates when they lose customers. I pay $49/month for 1.5 mb and it's a rip off.

Well, they are droppin, left and right, as of now.  So, I don't see it happening, sorry to say it, but, they are just gouging us big time, why do you think, they were able to spend the $76 Billion, to buy out DIRECTV!?  And still be able to fill their pockets, as well as pay their employees!?  It is no different then the gas companies doing the exact same thing.

Wow, you apparently lived in a good area.  Never been that cheap here.  The best triple play bundle anyone has ever offered here is $87.  I did have phone for $25, very-low-speed DSL for $10 and cable for $90 in that time frame.

A large part of the increases in costs for the Cable/Satelite/Video providers has been the content providers' bills to them, and to keep profit the same, they raise your bill.

I believe it to be, to retrieve their revenue of money, they had to
shell-out, to buy-out the "DirecTV" company, and to possibly be able to help you
get your prices back a bit better(Like I had to do, for my fathers account,
which, it did work for us but we have the 3 part deal of cable(U300),
internet(MAX 12MB speed) & landline, his bill went from $203.00 a month, down
to $138.00 a month, with the upgrade of the internet(MAX TURBO 24MB speed),
so, maybe you could get a better price and maybe upgrade your internet at
the same time!? I had to call them up and get a hold of the "promotional
department", which, what they do, is look up "loyalty promotions", that the
bill price will stick to the 1 price for the next year, so, would have to
redo it, then, but at least they do show us respect, for staying with them,
by lowering the bills to a set amount for the next year, which helped us stay
with AT&T and we do love the cable(U300) and internet(MAX TURBO 24MB
speed) and landline, as well. So, you may wish to call their 1-800 number, and
ask to be sent to their loyalty promotional department, and let them know,
what is going on, and odds are, you will get a better deal, for the next
year, but, odds are, they probably won't drop your price a whole lot, but at
least, you will know, that it will be that, for 12-months, at least, and
can keep on record where you contacted, for towards the end(I would suggest,
11 1/2 months after you get it set-up, so you have something to compare to
and etc.). I hope this helps you, as well as others! I know I did not
have this info, when I was stuck having to find the best deal, for our
internet/cable/phone set-up, due to my father trying to jump ahead, and decided
to go with DirecTV for the cable, but they did not show near the respect,
that AT&T reps did, so, within 5days(Would be sooner, if it weren't over the
weekend.), we decided to go directly back to AT&T UVERSE(Soooo much better,
in my opinion, and if they were to combine their perks, like DTV has where
we could restart a show/movie that is part way through the showing, back to
the beginning, where the UVERSE does not, and a couple other things, but,
the UVERSE has so much more better set-up, like, not setting porn channels
dead center of the other channels, since we don't want the kids finding it
immediately, and to me, it was a way to con the kids to click on them,
right away, which is why we see it no more then a scam. Especially since they
did not honor what was stated on the paper, that was at the DMV place,
where the price was supposed to be for ANY military vet, roughly $90 a month,
did not specify anything having to do with the fact, you have to be a
non-AT&T buyer, before you switch or get the contract, which, this is a giant
scam, on DTV's side, since AT&T has not had the time to fix their mess.
