frustrating drop-down menus

frustrating drop-down menus

What does this setting do? "Display menus dynamically with mouse over". It is located under "Preferences" -> "Display".

The reason I ask is because of those annoying menus at the top of every page : "Wireless", "U-verse", "Internet", etc.

If I accidently move my mouse over those menus, they drop down automatically, and will not go away unless I click something on the drop-down.

I ask about the setting because mine is unchecked but the stupid menus keep popping open by themselves just from mouse over. Smiley MadSmiley Frustrated

Re: frustrating drop-down menus

I discussed this issue with one of the moderators many months ago.  The short answer is that the user preference setting you're referring to only works for the board options, thread options, and post options menus.  It does not affect the top navigation menus.

However, there is another solution I came up with, if you are running Firefox or Chrome.  I have developed a Greasemonkey script that removes the mouse-over pulldowns.

If you want to use it, do the following:

1. If you're running Firefox, go to the following link:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

This is the Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox.  Greasemonkey by itself does nothing, but it allows user-created scripts to be executed under certain conditions.  The user-created scripts can perform alterations of the web page that is loaded in the browser.  Greasemonkey doesn't come with any scripts out of the box, you have to add one or more scripts to it before it can do anything.

Once you've installed the add-on and restarted Firefox, Greasemonkey will be ready.

(If you're running Google Chrome, this step is not necessary, as Google Chrome does not need any specific extension to run Greasemonkey scripts).

2. Download and install my script from here:

Sorry, nothing available for IE, since it's non-extendable.

Re: frustrating drop-down menus

There was a forum survey back in September, where I complained about the drop down on scroll over. Sounds like there were other complaints. But, no response

I notice other sites have the same thing.

Thank you  SomeJoe!

Those drop down menus are the worst, thanks for the work around.

CJ, just move the cursor to Announcements in any drop down and move the cursor off and it'll disappear, no clicking necessary. Smiley Wink

Thanks Chris, with mine I had to go back up to the main heading to make it go away. In other words, if the Uverse menu opened up, I would have to move my mouse back up to "U-verse" to get the menu to close (or actually click on something on the menu).

Something has changed though since I started this thread, because now the no longer get stuck. Go figure. They are a little too sensitive still, there needs to be a little more delay on the mouse-over because 95% of the time the menus open, I'm not even trying to use them.

Re: frustrating drop-down menus

I run FF beta and just got 13 but same for 12. The drop down are dynamic for me. I move the curser away and they disappear. I do have Greasemonkey installed but I also have NoScript and do not usuall have the two Dan scripts allowed.

Re: frustrating drop-down menus

Same here SKP.  I'm running FF 13 beta and it's working fine.  I have S.J.'s script installed in Grease Monkey.  All seems to be well for now.

FF 13 seems to be faster than previous versions.
