Why do people's caller ID show "anonymous" when I call them?

When I make a phone call using U-Verse Voice the person I call has the word "anonymous" appear in their caller ID.  Why?

JSDCargill - The name presented to the called line is generated by a data base at the called end. Either it is not updated or it was updated incorrectly.

Try calling a different number or numbers to see how widespread it is.
