Welcome to Friday!
I now have true "High speed" Internet! I went from (the no longer offered) 1.5 mbps to 12 mpbs. Yay! I got an offer that I just could not refuse!

Wow, 1.5, that must have been brutal.

Every time we move up, I don't really notice a difference in it being faster. Maybe it's just my need for speed, and it's never fast enough?
It is faster than dial-up!

1.5 wasn't horrible - unless you were trying to stream something or watch a Youtube video. Going from 1.5 to 12 was HUGE. The Youtube videos "timeline" (for lack of a better word) would often catch up to the buffering marker and the vid would freeze. Not now. My wife could not believe the instant-ness of web page loads. They were fast before but not instant.
Yup, no going back - one can never return to 1.5 as it is no longer offered to new customers or downgraders. LaDonna, the CSR, admitted that 1.5 speed was "pretty crummy."

I have a feeling the 3.0 speed will soon be discontinued as well. I've only jumped up one speed at a time, maybe I need to go up 2 speeds at a time, LOL!
I think 12 speed is what they recommend for YouTubers?
Now if they could only make 4G faster than Wi-Fi!

Not sure but (streaming) Netflix said that 5+ would be needed for a decent viewing experience.

I had to go look, and for streaming (SD, what about HD?),18 is recommended.
Check this out on that same page, click on COMPARE DOWNSTREAM SPEEDS (don't forget the fine print, LOL!)

Thanks for that info. SPD. It helped me because, come August, we will have to make a decision. A year ago we were offered one year free upgrade to 18 Mbps service. That period ends on August 15 and, if we take no action our bill will jump up about $10 per month. Of course we both have become spoiled by the very quick loading of web pages and increased download speeds, etc. So there is no disagreement between me and my wife about keeping the higher speed. Then too.....we went to some expense to purchase and install the dual-band wireless router for access to the 5 gHz band. That move helped most of all because we are the only ones in our neighborhood using that band. NO MORE DRASTIC SLOW DOWNS DURING THE EVENING HOURS. Our neighborhood is a virtual "forest" of wireless routers and U-verse service....all on of them on the 2.4 gHz band.....except for us.
ANYWAY...Thanks again for the comparison chart, SPD. It is useful to us in making our decision.
High of 95.9 degrees here today....and high humidity. Hottest day of the year....so far.
Our good friends from Texas, who've been visiting us the past 3 days, headed home this morning. They will soon be moving from Tyler to Arlington where they will have access to U-verse. Currently they struggle along with semi-rural AT&T DSL service and their speed often drops way down to well below 1 mbps download. I think they will be very happy with the service they will receive in Arlington. Their son, across the street from their new location, has U-verse and is quite happy with it.
TIP: Any of you folks that might be looking for a new laptop PC....be sure to check the Staples Office Supply web site and the ad-flyer for this coming week. WOW! Example....HP with 14" screen, i5 Intel processor, 6 gb of RAM, 750 gb HDD, etc. etc. for $479.95 (I think it was). There are others also....big clearance sale and you can purchase the coming upgrade to Windows 8 Professional for $14.95.
We were over on the Kansas side of the state line yesterday....visiting the MicroCenter store. I tell you I can get lost in that place and not come up for air for hours. It makes the urge return again to build my own PC. It's nearly impossible to walk out of there empty handed without having purchased at least one thing.
Well...Enough. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all you dads. Phil

Glad you found that info useful, Phil. I think they're doing 6 mos. same-as-current-plan pricing now, or that's what I recall from my bill. Call in and get upgraded to the next speed, they'll credit you for 6 mos. so you'll pay what you're paying now. Then you'll have to remember to call back in 6 mos. to drop back down or get another promo.
