Yep CJ I'm with you on the rented dog!!  I think I know why he keeps saying it's a stray.  He doesn't want to pay the pet deposit.  I believe it' $450.00.

I had the roaming dog problem once before and like you had a digging issue but it was my dog trying to dig under the fence to get out and "play" with the roamer.  I went a bought pavers and lined the whole back yard around the fence perimeter so my dog could not dig under.  That problem was solved albeit at my expense.

I just talked to my neighbor who lives between me and the renter about the poo and he said he has been having the same issues.  He said he thinks he has solved his issue though.  He said he sits out at night while having his last smoke of the night and carries his BB pistol.  He said he sees the dog come into his yard and pops it once or twice and he said the dog stays away for the most part now.  My luck if I did that I would either hurt the dog or someone would see me and turn me in for animal cruelty.

Oh well hopefully they will move on after their 1 year lease is up.

In our community you might get cited for discharging a fire arm inside the city limits.  Yep....even BB guns are prohibited here.  Many, many years ago....when I was a kid....we noticed our English Springer Spaniel limping out in our backyard.  It was fenced and he was never out of it unless on a leash....but apparently some kids thought he'd make a good target for them to aim at with their BB rifles.  Took the vet about 15 minutes to dig a few BB's out of old Jack's skin.  One in his paw had become infected so we caught it just in time.  He was not a big barker and was very friendly to everyone that paid attention to him.  But some kids can be so blasted cruel and thoughtless.  I guess they're the ones that grow up to be adults like the one that lives behind us now.  Enough on that.

We don't have a fenced yard.  But Alfie is real good about keeping his "solid deposits" on our side of the line and I always pick it up anyway.  We take walks twice a day and I ALWAYS take a plastic sack to pick up after him if he has an accident.  Always.  And he is always on a leash when we are outside.  Westies are hunting dogs and if he spots a varmit like a rabbit or a cat roaming free....or even a squirrel he would be immediately out of my control when all his attention focuses on the prey.  I got in that habit during our full-time RVing days.  Virtually all RV parks and campground have very strict rules about picking up after pets.  I've seen people kicked out of parks for repeated violations.......at midnight yet.  THAT was fun to watch.

Tonight I'm gonna stay up and watch the NASA channel while they cover the hoped-for landing of the rover "Curiosity" on the Mars surface.  Supposed to happen around 12:30 CDST.  Everyone keep your fingers crossed.  The whole process will be automatic.  Too much time delay at that distance to try to run the landing from Earth.  This particular rover is supposedly about the size of a VW bug and weights about 1,000 lbs.   Going to be a tense period of time during this landing.

UPDATE:  Curiosity has successfully landed on Mars.  Everything seems to have gone like clockwork and we've already seen two images from the rover......showing the rover's wheels on the surface of Mars.    The control room at the J.P.L. is bedlam.  Truly amazing.  If I heard correctly they landed it within about 5 meters of the planned target.

I can hardly wait until a human being steps onto Mars.  But the way things are going I doubt that I'll be around for it.

Atleast they didn't have any metric to english conversion issues and try touching down at a three hundred miles an hour or missing altogether. I guess that's why they went with the rocket powered brakes.

Wild NASCAR race, yesterday.  Two things stand out.

1)Jimmie Johnson needs one of these:

(A Tire Warning Light)

and 2) Pocono Speedway needs lightning detection equipment.  sad.

I would think that a storm strong enough to produce lightning would be visible to the crowd.  When I hear thunder I head inside the house or car.

During our years of full-time RVing my wife and I spent several summers working in parks in exchange for a free site and small salary.  Just by accident we became swimming pool managers.  Probably because of my chemistry background (a college major).  Anyway....she and I just made it our policy that when we heard thunder we cleared the pool and sent everyone to their cars or into the covered picnic area......away from trees.  We got complaints....and so did the park management.  But in the best interest of safety.....the parks always sided with us.  Perhaps because we told them if they did not go with our rule we would quit and move on. (wonderful thing about that kind of freedom that the RV lifestyle gave us).  Actually my motives were selfish.  I didn't want to be sitting in that 8 ft. high lifeguard chair with lightning flashing around the area.

The Curiosity touchdown last night was spectacular.  If you haven't seen it, watch this video of the "7 Minutes of Terror" to see what NASA/JPL's engineering can do.

China might be able to win a few diving medals, but you know what?  Soft-land 2000 pounds of mobile scientific gear on another planet and then we'll talk.

Yes, S.J.  It was super spectacular.  And what amazed me the most was how close they came to their planned target.  Darn near set it down in the driveway.  I'm usually up pretty late so I switched over and monitored the whole thing.   Gee I wish the NASA channel was HD.

Interesting story on the life of the EDL Leader Adam Steltzner.  You never know what will change your life. There is hope that "Wild Child" leaving in your house will make you proud.

SJ, great video, "7 Minutes of Terror", and truly amazing what they can do.

Real interesting about the rocker head engineer SKP.

Glad you're in your new house OUfan and congrats!

I found another site to get free (legal) software (like Giveaway of the Day).  BitsduJour.  Today, (8/7) they have Zoner Photo Studio 14 for free plus others.

Here is a tweet from Nelson Piquet, Jr. I assume that he is talking about AT&T wireless.  Nelson is racing in NASCAR, now.

@NelsonPiquet: My biggest mistake since I moved to the US was getting a @att line!! God they're terrible! Have to walk to the main road to make a phone call!

During our full-time-RVing years we often found ourselves parked out in the boonies somewhere that we could not get an adequate cell phone signal.  It used to happen...some years back....more often than it does these days.   But perhaps Mr. NelsonPiquet needs to consider a satellite phone.  I imagine he could afford it.  I have often wondered how long it will be before all phones are satellite connected rather than our present cell system.

Re: Weekly Off-Topic Thread #248

Will not work the main reason is the slight delay that you sometimes hear on news reports. The other is get enough channels to handle all the calls.   They are looking for way to spread the cell towers to handle the load. They want to go to antennas can be hidden on telephone poles that cover a few blocks instead of the big towers that cover miles.

Yup, next thing you know they will be putting a building in a community that all phone calls get routed to, and then they can send the calls out over fiber or microwave.Smiley Wink
