Re: Weekly Off-Topic Thread #248

We've been setting or tying record highs in DFW for the past week.  Haven't had as many days above 100 this year, but we've had more days above 105 and more on the way. Triple digits in the forecast for the next week.

Waiting on the title company to call so I can close on my house today and time is just dragging by.  Who knew 4 hrs could seem like 4 days.

Had the final builders walk thru yesterday and everything looks great.

Can't wait to finally have a place to call my own.

Re: Weekly Off-Topic Thread #248

Things are getting a bit of a slow start this week.  Dog days of summer I guess.  Even Alfie is bothered by the extreme heat.  He totally ignored his morning meal.....but ate a good one at 5 PM so I think it's just the weather.  I kind of feel the same way.

I know you're gonna enjoy the new home OFD.  As the guys said....hope you enjoy yard work.  I hate it....but then "work" is a 4-letter word so it's not in my vocabulary.

Been watching some of the Olympics.  WOW it's boring.  But my wife likes to watch so I just keep mum and do something else when I can't take anymore.

I've sent another complaint to Yahoo.  The spell checker in their E-mail app is totally screwed up.  It repeatedly marks correctly spelled words and wants to change them to incorrectly spelled.  Wish I could remember some of them because they can be hilarious.  It really is pretty much useless right now.

I finally got the InSSIDer program to work through my dual band router.  Pretty much just a problem with my own ignorance.  But it works now and holy cow......it is truly amazing how many wireless systems there are in our neighborhood.  On the 2.4 gHz band I think I counted over 20.  Some are pretty weak, of course.  But there are some that I could probably connect to if they weren't secure.  On the 5 gHz band we are still the only ones whose SID shows up on the list.  I'm surprised that there are 3 or 4 systems which are not secure.  A few months ago...one of them even invited others to use their Internet.  That one is gone now so perhaps they moved.....or wised up.

NO rain so guess we'll have to water the yard again....to protect the grass roots.  We've been watering shrubs, ornamentals and trees on a regular basis.  Tomato crop is a goner.  Even with regular watering the intense three-digit heat day after day after day we've gotten only 3 or 4 tomatoes.  No more are setting on and the green ones are not ripening nor getting bigger.  It's been many years since I've been through a summer like this...this far north in Missouri.  And I'm no spring chicken...as y'all know.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money. .......Margaret Thatcher

Finally have our new home.  Packing today and the rest of the week.  Moving day set for Friday. Can't wait to get out of these apartments for good.

You know what, at this point we can rearrange every day for 6 months and I wouldn't care.  It's our house, not an apartment where I have a herd of elephants above me and messy dogs/owners all over the place.  I have a kitchen that will be able to fit the cooking utinsels my wife had before I met her and actually have a cooktop, oven that will cook.

Three key advantages to owning a house .

1.) guarented parking in the same spot with covered garage.

2.)able to play movies or music any time of day at a nice volume

3.) make changes to the internal/ external structure.

After spending the last 5 years in an apartment, the biggest advantage I see:

1.) No neighbors above you

2.) No neighbors next to you

3.) No neighbors below you

4.) No neighbor's dog poop where my son may be playing

Hopefully your back yard is fenced because we have a not so considerate neighbor who lets his dog run free and I constantly have his dog's poo in my front yard.  For awhile I would just bag it up and throw it away.  I talked to him about it and he tried to tell me it was a stray and just stays at his house.  Well it sure looks healthy for a stray so I know he is feeding it.

I now bag his dogs poo and take it over to his house and leave it on top of his trash can lid.  Tired of my can smelling.

The other evening my sprinklers came on and I heard all this barking in my front yard.  Look out, and you guessed it, there is his dog biting my sprinkler heads and biting at the water. Smiley Mad  I really don't want to call animal control but if something doesn't change soon I may have to.

Forgot to mention they are renters.  Not that renters are bad but they don't seem to have the same feeling for everyone elses property as owner would.

Must be a rented dog. Smiley Surprised

We fenced our back yard when we bought our place to keep our dogs in our yard but it gets more work keeping our neighbor's (two doors down) dog out. He has a big  german sheperd that keeps charging our fence when it sees our dogs in our yard. Our's was the first fence in our area of the neighborhood, and before that the neighbor had been allowing his german sheperd free run of the back yards because no one else had dogs and everyone was too polite to tell him how inconsiderate he was being. I took the time to inform him of the local ordinances and how the dog can be removed if it can't be controlled. Now, he does try harder to keep his german sheperd in his yard but still refuses to use any restraining measures, no leash, no fence, no invisible fence, no training collar, just yelling. Now our dogs start barking their heads off every time they see the german sheperd whether it charges the fence or not. On top of that the idjit has the nerve to aquire yet another large dog that he can not keep in his own yard so now we have two dogs charging the fence.Smiley Mad

Re: Weekly Off-Topic Thread #248

Yep CJ I'm with you on the rented dog!!  I think I know why he keeps saying it's a stray.  He doesn't want to pay the pet deposit.  I believe it' $450.00.

I had the roaming dog problem once before and like you had a digging issue but it was my dog trying to dig under the fence to get out and "play" with the roamer.  I went a bought pavers and lined the whole back yard around the fence perimeter so my dog could not dig under.  That problem was solved albeit at my expense.

I just talked to my neighbor who lives between me and the renter about the poo and he said he has been having the same issues.  He said he thinks he has solved his issue though.  He said he sits out at night while having his last smoke of the night and carries his BB pistol.  He said he sees the dog come into his yard and pops it once or twice and he said the dog stays away for the most part now.  My luck if I did that I would either hurt the dog or someone would see me and turn me in for animal cruelty.

Oh well hopefully they will move on after their 1 year lease is up.
