Unresolved property damage claim Sedgwick/AT&T

We had an AT&T service person out in June because our U-Verse internet connection had been acting up.  He decided to run a new data cable to our U-Verse router, and in the process drilled a hole from the outside of our home, through a sewage drain pipe for our upstairs bathroom, and then on through the drywall.  The damage was not discovered until months later, and we have now filed a claim with AT&T's Risk Management department.

In the past two weeks, I have placed 15 phone calls between AT&T tech support, AT&T risk management, and Sedgwick (the 3rd party company that is managing the claim).  If I had hair, I would have pulled it out by now.

I have provided Sedgwick with all of the information that I can regarding the claim (pictures, invoices, etc), but according to them *and* AT&T tech support, the service record was deleted after 6 months (even though it hasn't been 6 months yet).  This mythical service record apparently contains a key piece of information, the name of the AT&T service person who installed the cable (and caused the damage).

Without this person's name, the claim will not move forward.  The personnel from Sedgwick claim that it will take up to 30 days to contact all of the service managers in our region to accomplish the following: 1) figure out who performed the service, and 2) get them to confirm that damage was caused by the AT&T service person who I watched drill the hole in this wall.

This is unacceptable.  Quite frankly, it is ludicrous.  There is absolutely no question that the damage is AT&T's fault. We have no other telecommunications provider.  This is the *only* data cable on our property.  I was physically present when the AT&T service person installed the cable.

I have attempted to escalate this issue with Sedgwick and AT&T.  As things stand now, Sedgwick is saying wait 30 days while they look for a needle in a haystack, and AT&T's risk management group says I might get a call back from the AT&T-Sedgwick Liason, but there is no guarantee that I will even get that much attention.

Is there any other avenue to attract the attention of someone at AT&T with the authority and ability to fix this?

Since this is account specific I would recommend that you send a Private Message to the AT&TCustomerCare customer service team. They will reply back with a PM (blue envelope in the top right of the page). Their normal business hours are from 7am to 10pm Central Time.

I would try sending them a private message and see if the can help.  If not look at  http://www.att.com/gen/investor-relations?pid=5609

"If you find this post helpful and it solved your issue please mark it as a solution.  This will help other forum members locate it and will also let everyone know that it corrected your problem. If they have the same issue they will know how to solve theirs"

So it has been a few days, and I'm seeing folks who sent in a PM on the 7th starting to get replies, but I still haven't heard anything back yet and I sent in a PM to Customer Care on the 6th.

I still haven't heard anything from AT&T Risk Management or the AT&T-Sedgewick Liason.  The last I heard from Sedgwick, it might be 2014 before this gets resolved.

Please help!

Okay well since they didn't respond try this:

I would recommend that you send a Private Message to the ATTU-verseCare Community Specialist team.  One of the specialists will respond to your PM shortly.  Please look for the flashing envelope at the top right of the page for your response from a team member.

They are more of the tech folks but if Customer Care hasn't responded, Uverse Care should be able to get the ball rolling.

Positive news!  We received a visit from a very polite gentleman from AT&T today who wanted to survey the damage.  He took one look at our photos and the location of the plumbing/cable drop and indicated that it was a pretty cut and dry issue.  He said he would contact Sedgwick with his approval of the claim.

Perhaps this will get resolved sooner than we were led to believe.

Received a call today from Sedgwick saying that the check is in the mail.

I appreciate the support received here.  It took significantly less time than I had been told to resolve the issue.

I have tried reaching AT&T @ 210-***-**** (options 4-7 state no one is available to take my call to try again later and I get disconnected). I also tried 800-***-****, but there are no options that seem to match what I need. My husband and I recently had and accident because of an uncovered manhole. I started with the city of Dallas, but yesterday we received word that it did not belong to them. We went to the site to take pictures and realized it was belonged to AT&T. I am needing to speak to someone regarding the damages that were sustained. PLEASE HELP!! Thank you, LQ

Some places have a large problem with thieves stealing man hole covers and selling them for scrap metal.  I wonder if this is what you have encountered.

As this is not a customer issue, I'm not sure how to direct you.  The best contact number page I have for AT&T is this one:

the4qfamily,

If you have comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance, this should be covered minus the deductible. Contact your auto insurance company and see if you are eligible to file a claim.

This is a newer post, I have posted before customer care, and the person who helped us is not returning our emails.

We had for over 2 years TWO YEARS, an ATTUverse cable that several of the technicians that were repeatedly sent out said was no good, the pole was bad, and that the wire should have been removed; it was hanging so low over our driveway my husband could reach up and touch it, and then they had slung it through one of my expesive Blue Spruce trees, which are very expensive, then it went up through our taller hardwood tree which happened to  have a fork in it so it was perfect for them to throw it up in that tree, instead of taking the cable down in the first place. I had the regional manager out, the Uverse guy that takes photos of the issues, they both told me this is ridiculous of whoever threw that cable in our trees instead of doing it properly, the photographer took dozens of photos of it. They both assured me this would be taken care of. The cable remained, and there it hung, despite the promises. Finally I got on here and someone who obviously was a manager finally got the cable taken down late in the season of 2013.

Now I got the call from Sedgewick rep, who was totally uncaring, and just kept repeating: well our manager came by the property and did not see any cables!!! NO KIDDING!! They were finally taken down late 2013, but the very area of this tree (blue spruces this size are expensive; I took horticulture in college and had a friend in the business tell me how much this tree is worth) is completely dead from UVerse's cable that was thrown up through that exact area of the tree, and that area is DEAD!! TWO year of it hanging in that tree killed the area of it. What is going on? Sedgewick said since the manager did not see the cable (again, NO KIDDING) they are "denying our claim"

Can someone out there help me? I have spent several hundred minutes on the phone with UVerse over this and they have made it an uncalled for issue. Someone please contact me over this. You ruined our property with your junk that should have been removed right away but left it there for TWO years, and now we, the customers take the hit? Ridiculous.

In response to this post from 2014, it turns out that the cable wire in question (per the long time tech) was NOT removed as I thought, it was just raised up on a temporary basis until they came and completely removed the dead/non-viable wire. After looking at photographs taken in 2012, I can see that this main cable wire that was the one that caused the damage is still hanging over our property yet in mid 2015. The same technician that came out in 2011, came back out earlier this year and could not believe this wire had not been removed yet. I have learned alot from this tech. Sadly, just after that, he retired. He tried his best to get this resolved but he could only do so much. I have had several other technicians out as well and all have said the wire in question is indeed dead and should have been removed. We are still getting denied the property damage from Sedgwick as well. This is now an over four year long issue that ATTuverse cannot seem to make right with us. I have posted another request along with one of the many photos I have of the offending wire and damage done. I am hoping to get some resolution to this and our damage claim finally paid. Four years is completely ridiculous for us to have to deal with this.

I'm not an arborist but I'm curious:  How did a hanging wire damage your tree?  Did a limb break under the weight?  Did the electrical discharge burn it up?

Unfortunately for you, Sedgwick is the ATT insurance company.  If there is damage of any sort, they are the ones that will handle it.  If your claim has been denied, I'm not sure you have any other recourse except taking them to court.

Hi Skeeter (love that name)   the wires, being thrown on the branches of this tree which is a blue spruce, damaged the branches of it every time the wind blew. Will try to post a photo. It would have been ok had they removed this wire, which had not even been working, right away. They left it in from summer, 2011 to late March/early April of 2015. I did have an arborist out, in fact paid him alot out of OUR pockets as sedgwick told us to do, and he stated once its dead, its dead. Despite my best efforts to put the nutrition stakes in the ground for it, it's done. This would not have happened had the pole in the corner of our property that is ATT's not been cracked and to the point it leaned further and further towards my car, the house, etc. every year. Due to the leaning, the wire came down, the "loop" of it so low no one parked in the area of our driveway that the pole and wire would come down. It was so bad that on windy days, we could actually hear a bit of cracking noise in the pole at times.

This is just a case of ATT not doing the common sense thing as their techs had wanted done, and our property, not theirs being damaged. Not only is this one expensive blue spruce permanently damaged another hardwood tree of ours was killed and we had to pay to cut that down. They are also currently using the fork of our other hardwood tree that runs close to our house for a pole instead of removing the dead/non viable cable wire. Our techs that have come out multiple times for our service constantly going out are highy PO'd. They can't understand why this cable wire was not removed back in 2011.  Additionally, just west of us, for a main connection for the neighborhood, the construction dept. used twigs and sticks from the side of the road for a means to connect the two main cables instead of ordering the proper new wiring. Our main construction tech said they did not want to order the proper amount of wire for "cost reasons" Let me see if I can get a good photo on here for you, and thank you. Oh, Sedgwick said they were ready to send us a check for damages, however it was the ATT people that said no. They did not even bother to send us a letter explaining the reasons for denial, I had to do my own investigation to even find that out. Completely uncalled for. This photo is from Aug. 2012, in 2013, 2014, the cable wire came down even further as the pole continued to get weaker.

@Changing serv. soonI can't post the link here but google "AT&T Investor Relations".  Look on the page, scroll down and look on the far right of the page.  There is a link to contact "Senior Vice President of Customer Experience".  I bet she can help!!

Good Luck!!

@Changing serv. soon You can use it also.  Others have, with a favorable outcome.

Hi BeeBeeSa, thank you so much, I will indeed write them.

I think I must have spent in total of full working year of my life on this mess, and had it been taken care of by Att in a timely manner, I would not have even bothered with all this, but 4 long years and going is beyond ridiculous.

Thanks to you and to Skeeter for your kind help, will keep you posted! It's great to have other people out there willing to help. I have not been able to get anywhere with this company so far.. lets see what they will do.

I'm in Lisbon Ohio. ATT has monopoly here. Ruin sub base on 1700 ft of driveway. No responses , just denial of liability . We maitain our driveway ATT ruined 30 yrs of work with no problem. I am livid and will not stop until something is done including going to there homes with my backhoe and digging up their driveways. South shore construction from Cleveland did the work they think we are HICKS and will let this go?
