Red X and Two Dots!!!!

Red X and Two Dots!!!!

I just got my Uverse service about a month and a half ago.  Earlier this week, the DVR unit had to be reset because the power light was blinking.  This evening, I was watching a recorded show and it stopped part way through the recording as if that was the end of the show (it wasn't, as the meter indicated it was 49 minutes into a 1:03 recording).  I chose to erase the show, then the unit locked up.  After about 3 minutes, it reset itself.  It now displays only a red X with two dots underneath the red X.  I have tried resetting it 3 additional times just holding down the power button and also removing the power cord.  The results are always the red X with two dots.  What gives?  I now have no TV and and some dissatisfied family members complaining about having shows they haven't watched yet.  However, I think this unit is toast.  How long will it take to receive a replacement?

Re: Red X and Two Dots!!!!

Mine recently bricked because of a firmware update. I cured the problem by doing a hard reset. Unplug the power from the DVR (not the outlet) then while simultaniously pressing the down arrow on the DVR + the power button reattach the power. Wait if necessary for all three leds to show up, they may blink. Then release both buttons. If successfull you should see the gears and a progress bar. You may also have to do a  power cycle (press and hold) several times for the progress bar if it hangs (red X).

Please be aware that this process erases all recordings on the box.

Re: Red X and Two Dots!!!!

While that's true of some models it didn't erase my recordings so you might get lucky like I did. (Motorola VIP2250)
