Purchased Modem vs. Lease

I was told when I signed up for service that I would be leasing my modem at a rate of $6 of month. I received my first bill and notice a charge for the gateway modem. I called a CR and was told that I would have to purchase the modem for $100. I then called today to cancel and was told that the modem is mine and I have to keep it? It has been less than 30 days from my install. I am already paying and losing the $100 installation fee. Do I have any options here? Does anyone want to buy a modem?
