Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

Our condo complex in Downers Grove, IL has had a lot of problems with groups of young men representing themselves as being from AT&T who come into our buildings without permission and without appointments, They pretend to have appointments with people in our buildings by carrying a list of addresses with names - but the names are not anyone who lives in our building. They claim they've been given a "bad list" by their supervisors, but  I've lived here 14 years and know the names do not belong to anyone who lives in the building.

They go door-to-door soliciting people (many are seniors) and tell them they can give them a better deal on Uverse than AT&T can. They gain access to apartments and also ask for social security information and trying to gain access to our building without permission.

They have twice been run out of our buildings by the Downers Grove Police and keep returning. AT&T should suspend their status as a reseller if it is indeed really there at all. The company is named EMS (Electronic Marketing Services) - they say they are from Oak Park or Oak Brook (story changes), but their employees are from Indiana.

We asked for phone numbers of their company and not one employee would give us a location or a phone number of a supervisor. It's clearly a scam. They wear AT&T embroidered shirts and have IDs that say AT&T in big letters and in tiny letters underneath is says "solutions provider".

Our buildings are on alert to call the police when we see them, but Downers Grove residents and others should also be alert to this scam.

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

Have you tried contacting AT&T directly about the problem?  While your situation is interesting.....the participants on this forum are nearly all just subscribers to UV and not company employees.  If I were you I'd go straight to AT&T with a complaint.

It might be time to call the police.  Right now they are knocking on doors, but it could escalate to more severe behavior.

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

I know all about these people i used to work for a company like this.  They are all over i worked in Oak Brook but on a different campain with Quill they also work with Culligan, Great Lakes Energy, T-Mobile and of course AT&T.  Employees at this company are ussally young adults who are easily brainwashed.  AT&T solution providers are not a scam they are a team giving the right by AT&T to sell there product but this marketing company takes it too far, they train these young people to lie and do what ever they need to just to make the sale and trust me they are not offering you a better price than you'll get else where.  They are promised that if they work hard for 6 months and teach 4 other people how to do this job that they can have there own lying dishonest company.  I feel bad for the people who work there because the recruiters are good at selling this job and good at training them to keep there mouths shut so just tell anyone who comes to your door that you know they are a marketing company and that you have a rep you work with already, they than will tell you they are your new rep just reply with "no i just spoke with them today" trust me this will stop them from coming. hope this helps i know i rambled alot.

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

I thought I read a while back (on this forum) that ATT was aware of these shady practices (and PO'd customers!) and they were going to train ATT employees only and send them out.  Guess not?  :smileysad:

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

When I retired from the Navy in 07 I interviewed for a "marketing manager" position, yeah right,  it was basically the same type of operation only these people set up outside of Wal-Mart and gas stations and tried to get people to buy their product.  Needless to say I didn't take the job and basically told them that their ads were very deceptive.  They aren't around any more.

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

Thanks for the insight on this company "iknowthetruth". I remember the original post well and especially the part where the police keep throwing them out of the apt complex and they keep coming back. What a bunch of pushy D2D sales people.

Unfortunately AT&T/U-verse is will continue to use subcontractors no matter how much disgrace they bring to the company. Wonder if the mindset of AT&T isn't the same as the subcontractors - make the sale no matter what is said/promised. We wouldn't see all these complaints in the forum if this wasn't happening. :smileysad:

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

All the companies have subcontractors. Comcast I have seen with subcontractors and others.

This is the only thread I see complaining about this (subcontractors). All other posts is full of a nonsense and usually start by comcast or other cable employees.

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

Thanks to everyone for posting on this subject.  Our neighborhood has just been visited by these resellers 'representing' AT&T.  This is the poorest marketing strategy I have ever seen.  Our nieghbors and us  worked for AT&T back in the day when it was a more respectable company.  We are flabbergatsed at them stooping to the shoddy level of salesmanship, evidenced by the ones who were in our neighborhood today.  Maybe there are some decent resellers out there, but those today gave AT&T a bad name.  And NO none of us use the UVerse product.

Re: Problems with an "ATT Solutions Provider"

Just to clear things up....  AT&T Solutions Provider is exactly what shirts they SHOULD have had on.  Now if it is a no soliciting area and/or they have been asked to leave then they are supposed to do just that.

However, it is in no way a scam.  There are dishonest people in any field.  Door to door reps contribute to a huge part of Uverse's success.  And many of them do very well, with low cancel rates, and very high customer satisfaction ratings.  So ease up!  Just because its something you wouldnt do, does not make them bad people or scam artists.  Most of the reps are good people just trying to make a living.

That being said, I do agree that there are shady companies out there.  But a generalization of them as dishonest scammers is completely ignorant.  Believe it or not, AT&T does not put up with much.  If a company selling Uverse is constantly having complaints and cancelled accounts, THEY WILL LOSE THEIR CONTRACT.

I am a regional sales director.  I run several D2D teams and I have seen it happen several times.  There are companies that have been selling AT&T for years, with stellar reputations for not just sales, but leadership development, promoting managers, and top tier customer satisfaction ratings.  Then, there are those that come in and only shoot for high volume sales and hire anyone that walks in.  And rest assured, those companies are usually let go within their first year.
