Porting number from ATT uverse

Porting number from ATT uverse

I have phone, internet and TV with ATT Uverse.  I want to port my phone number which I have had for many years to another carrier.  When I enter the present carrier, I am being warned that depending on the setup,  when the porting process is completed, I could lose all of my ATT services.

I want to keep the TV and internet service.

How can I make sure that I will keep these services and still port the number to a different carrier?

I would call 800-288-2020 and speak to a live person or you can send a Private Message to the ATTU-verseCare Community Specialist team.  One of the specialists will respond to your PM shortly.  Please look for the flashing envelope at the top right of the page for your response from a team member.

Porting your number away from U-verse will not cancel all of your services.  The way I would do it is let the carrier you are switching to put in the port order to AT&T.  There really should be nothing for you to do.  Well that's how it typically works.

Re: Porting number from ATT uverse

vmil - It is really good when a warning gives a very specific situation and a specific solution. But, as soon as the words move in the "generality" direction it is worse than no warning at all because it causes unnecessary concern.

I think the warning you cite is in the later category. It probably is referring to DSL over POTS. There was a time when you could not have DSL without POTS. Leaving you in limbo.

But, as BeeBee says, U-verse is different. With U-verse you can have each of the three services individually or in any combination.

If you need something to worry about, I have seen posts of people having trouble porting numbers from u-verse. Seems they were told they need to convert U-verse to POTS for porting. This seems unreasonable, but the porting rules are convoluted.

On the other hand, there are only a couple of these complaints. It would seem if it were true, there would be many more posts on the subject.

As always - hope for the best, be prepared for the worst. In this case, perhaps - not surprised if you get the word the number cannot be ported from U-verse.
