NORMALLY, a beeping indicates a message on your voice mail.
Dial *98 to see if you have messages and retrieve them.

Thanks for the response skeeter; but my phone is not a cell phone; it's my home phone with Uverse voip service. when I dial *98, i get a busy signal? I need to say that I'm a not very technically knowledgeable senior citizen..
U-verse does have built in voice messaging, and a broken dial tone is an indicator that you have messages. I didn't know it would do that on incoming calls as well, though. "*98" is the correct code to get your Voice Mail.

derkraut1 - It sounds like your line is stuck. Call in for repair.
If you pick up the phone & the dial tone is stuttering it is indicating you have a message & you get that message by *98 (as previously stated). If that is busy, either the voice mail is being repaired or it is stuck & needs to be reset.
The problem is when you do get through, you will need a PIN. If you do not know that PIN, you will need to have that reset.
Can you call from another phone? What do you get? If you hit # (or maybe *) you can enter the admin area. But, you need the PIN.
There are other ways to access - via browser app or the TV. I think the best idea is to call in & have a tech look at your number & reset the VM.
Just to cover all the bases - Is the phone line available on the house jacks or just on the RG (modem)?? If it is connected to the house jacks, can you disconnect from there and try just one phone directly in the RG??
