I have two uverse boxes. When the main tv is turned on the screen always has a message that there's no input, so I have to turn the tv and uverse box on and off a couple of times and then the tv works. The second tv's problem is similiar, but I get a message that the HD bootup test failed, the sound works but the picture has a message about the failure. The second tv has to be reset and then it works. I've had the Uverse Tech out the house twice and they can't fix either problem. Really fustrated with problem. Help!

Are you using HDMI cables, swap to component (5 way) and see if problems continue. There have been previous posts when tv shuts down, handshaking issue, most TVs reported are Samsung but not all.
If had one good box, swap locations...problem follow receiver or stay t tv location.

garys520 - MT's original suggestion to switch to component cables is the answer. Switching HDMI cables only rules out a physical problem. You have a software handshake problem.
HDMI is a digital, two way HD interface. Component is an analog, one way HD interface.
You may be able to make it work by trying variations of turning on the TV or STB first & introducing a delay between the two. But, using component cables is the sure fire fix because it eliminates the cause of the problem. It is either that or a new TV.

The problem with HDMI compatibility is not a new one. It's been popping up on this forum ever since I first joined in 2007. The first suggestion to swap out the HDMI cables and replace with the Component cables is a good one. I've seen it repeated many times on this forum that picture quality is not sacrificed when component cables are used. In fact SomeJoe7777 has made the case in the past very convincingly that the picture is better with component connections. Off the air and cable television is all 1080i. The only time you will receive the full benefit of 1080p is from blue-ray DVD's. So for connecting to your U-verse STB's the component cables will perform just as well....maybe, in some of our opinions, better than HDMI.
HDMI is a standard. But the TV manufacturers seem to like to play with it. The result can produce incompatibilities. Sharp was one of the main offenders a few years back. But now apparently Samsung is also having problems. This was referred to recently in another post on this forum. The individual had contacted Samsung and was told the company had the problem and was working on it.
In our home the component connection produces a better picture. Sharpness is great, color is excellent....and the blacks are better. AND, importantly, we don't have these handshake failures and other compatibility problems.
