Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

The price for regular unleaded here in our little suburb has gone up to $2.899 per gallon.  That was an 11 cents per gallon jump overnight.

In all states, as far as I know, the major source of funds for highway and road construction and maintenance is the tax on the fuel we burn in our vehicles.  The cost of this service keeps climbing.  But, as Americans shift to more fuel efficient vehicles and....yes...even cars using other energy sources....and we use fewer and fewer gallons of gasoline, the revenue derived from those taxes will continue to shrink.  So the state highway departments are caught in a bind between income and outgo.  It is a certainty that new revenue sources will have to be found and that will most likely be new taxes.  I'll bet the tax breaks on ethanol will be removed before long.

Don't know if I've touched on this before.....but....we have a Missouri State Trooper living across the street from us.  He told me that they burn E-85 in their cars.  Interestingly....he is averaging 85 fewer miles per tankful than with straight gasoline.  His car is a Ford Crown Victoria I think.....police version.....and loaded to the gills with electronic devices.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money. .......Margaret Thatcher

Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

Yeah, they've already commented about less revenue here from gasoline, and talking about 14 cents per gallon raise!

Most of Houston has had mandatory 10% Ethanol in gasoline for years, and it does cut down on mpg. Smiley Mad  So I go as fast as I can on the freeway to get my $s worth. Smiley Sad

I really think politicians need to get decreases in pay and perks so the rest of us can afford to live.

$3.13 in Central Ohio. As soon as the pipeline leak story hit the news the prices went way up. I'm sure they didn't pay higher prices for the gas in those full underground storage tanks. Smiley Mad

Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

Seem to be falling here, Uni, with some prices in the 2.85-3.05 range.  I saw 2.94 and 3.05 on my drive this morning.

Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

I'll have to double check the prices Dave. To tell you the truth the price I quoted ($3.13) was 2-3 days ago. Hope they are also dropping here.

Seems like whenever there is a bad news story about oil/gas prices going up (eg. pipeline leak) we fear it will cost us a lot more. And indeed the stations prey on these fears and immediately jack up the prices which we expect. Then the prices level off, but not back down to where they were, when it's found the impact may not be immediate. It's a vicious circle and the stations/oil companies have us just where they want us. Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

I checked Gas Buddy around Cols and see that the best prices are way up North, around Westerville / Polaris Road - $2.89.  Our lowest prices around here are similar with 2.84 the lowest but that is 25 miles away, in Franklin.

Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

Last night, I paid $2.95 at a station that was $3.01 earlier in the day.  I'm sure that you all know about Gasbuddy.com, right?  NICE site and dhascall posts gas prices there, on occasion.

Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

Yeah, I know about it, but normally gas up near the 'hood where I know the prices are consistently lower. Smiley Wink   I will have to look for you there.

Re: Gas Prices - Ugh!!!!!!

Ours has jumped up to $2.99 in most places now. So much for econmic recovery.  This is one of the big reasons the economy starting tanking a couple of years ago.
