DVR crapping out on me.

DVR crapping out on me.

First off, I don't watch much TV, so this problem just popped up out of the blue. There hasn't been any recent power outages, no overuse, no nothing.

Alright, so I turn my TV set on to see a big red x with two gray dots below it. I perform the usual rigmarole, I check connections, I then reset the box by holding the power button for ten seconds. The scren now shows a gear with the loading bar at the bottom. The loading finishes only to go back the red X.

I then unplug the box for 10 or more seconds, and replug it back in. Now I get three gray dots that show up for 5-10 seconds, then the screen goes black, the power button on the receiver flashes, and the process starts over again. My TV is now on a constant loop of dots, then nothing, then dots, then nothing...etc.

This DVR is barely 2 months old, and I'm getting really p'od at the idea of having to perform a disaster recovery, as I would not want to lose all of my recordings. Nor do I wish to replace the darned thing, for the same reasons, as well as it being so barely used.

And instead of just telling me to call tech support, does anyone actually have any immediate tips they can give me?

Re: DVR crapping out on me.

Red X with two dots is sign of hardware malfunction...only option need to replace DVR
Need to contact tier support and either schedule tech visit, or have new DVR shipped and you replace.

All recordings are gone..... suspect you have a grey 1216 or 1225 DVR,.
Whatever you decide to do the replacement DVR should be factory reset before using...

If need additional information please post again, thank you.

Re: DVR crapping out on me.

There's absolutely nothing I can do myself? Great solution, never heard that one before.

Why or how does this sort of thing happen? It was perfectly fine yesterday. And its almost brand new. And no, my recordings arent gone as far as I can tell. I just can't access or use anything.

Is there any kind of option where my recordings come out intact? Or are these dumb things supposed to break down periodically to make ATT as much cash as possible?

This whole thing makes me feel ripped off.

Re: DVR crapping out on me.

Four Red X indicators, no dots is link (wiring) issue, then one dot...two dots hardware...and three dots.
Only possible thing you can try is factory resetting DVR, losing all recordings
If attempt this I suspect will get 1 gear ( loading new firmware), then go to two gears (applying) at which time will red X **.

The equipment is leased within your monthly payment, so no cost to you to replace the DVR but does cost ATT in either tech dispatch or double shipping costs if chose self install option, so ATT is not making money when leased equipment fails.

Please note the DVR is designed as a temporary storage, for replay of recorded programming.
When equipment fails or you cancel your service the equipment is returned to ATT, along with any recordings.
If you desire permanent recordings , you need to store the recordings to a separate device such as tape, dvd, or hard drive.

At this point with two dots will not be able to retrieve recordings.
Possible causes include over heading, there was nothing on top or next to preventing airflow correct?
Corrupt hard drive, when hit that particular segment created issue, why DVR should always be factory reset when installed.
Possible weak components or bad solder joint from vibration, an number of things could have causedi issue

Re: DVR crapping out on me.

As a long time uverse customer and current user of the 2250 motorola I can assure you (knock on wood) your problems are very rare and unique. The new d.v.r. will solve your issue and just call it bad luck. Their equipment is high quality and has many awesome capabilities which you will learn.

Relax and let them set you up with a new one.

By the way, a collegue of mine HAD Comcast/Xfinity and went through 5 d.v.r.s. in a month on top of the worst customer service.

You'll be fine.
