3801HGV connection issues with log. Advice greatly needed

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone this is my first post as you can see. I am having issues with my residential gateway model number 3801HGV.

This may be unrelated to the current issues but over the last several months my internet has been slower than expected but I just attributed that to a lot of people in the neighborhood being online. Although it particularly seems to get slower after midnight. I pay for 18Mbps and typically I get around 14-15 Mbps on speedtest.net. I didnt think much about this because I always assumed the 18Mbps is under ideal conditions. However, my netflix and HBO GO seem to buffer and disconnect more then I think they should even at the slower than expected speeds.

The current issue seems to be with the router itself.. It was disconnecting and dropping off my list of available wireless networks completely. This was persisting even after a reboot of the router. During the time it was not transmitting only the power light was on and no others. Eventually it started working again.

Although the problem could be that for some reason there was a disconnection from ATT , I believe it could be the gateway hardware because it seems that even if gateway was not getting a signal from ATT it would still broadcast its SSID. Does anyone know if the router will not broadcast its SSID if it does not have a connection to ATT?

I looked at the LOG in the router software but I am not sure what the error codes are and google didnt provide any conclusive answers..

This particular code seems to be the one that was causing the issues

err=14 name=EAPOL_FAILED clear

As it seemed to be occuring about the time I was losing connection.

Below is the full log. Any help or a nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.: No I have not called ATT yet. I figured with the thing currently working there wouldnt be much they could do, pluse I hate talking on the phone to customer service people.

Re: 3801HGV connection issues with log. Advice greatly needed

If at time of no service only light on is power, the the RG is in a reinit state (rebooting) when competed your services are restored.
Reboots commonly happen when the RG makes n to many errors for assistance please download and post pics of test result from UV real time found here

http://www.uvrealtime.com/

Please note that this is allow us to give opinions you are still going to need to contact tier support 1-800-288-2020 AS THE FIRST step in getting a tech dispatched in your problem. Some here may prematurely suggest contact customer care, this is an escalation dept if no progress is made through normal channels.

Recommendation, call tier support to get service tech scheduled, with the 3801 do you have TV service, if no and internet only or internet, voip only believe your loop length is greater than 2000 feet, original RG trouble syncing so needed 3801. Errors can be inside or outside of home tech visit will determine which, be aware if: issue is inside home and do not have wire maintanace plan you would be facing a billable charge to correct, tier support should inform you of charges before scheduling a dispatch.

Re: 3801HGV connection issues with log. Advice greatly needed

Thanks. I will call ATT if it comes to that, but I wanted to see if I could fix it myself first. Also does the following mean someone is trying to get into my network, or is this just random internet traffic that is nothing to worry about?

src=192.41.218.54 dst=my ip ipprot=6 sport=53278 dport=25 Unknown inbound session stopped

src=202.151.73.237 dst=my ip ipprot=17 sport=31735 dport=37335 Unknown inbound session stopped

src=202.151.73.237 dst=my ip ipprot=6 sport=61636 dport=37335 Unknown inbound session stopped

src=202.151.73.237 dst=my ip1 ipprot=17 sport=31735 dport=37335 Unknown inbound session stopped

src=221.199.182.147 dst= my ip ipprot=6 sport=8888 dport=1433 Unknown inbound session stopped

src=89.248.172.95 dst=my ip 1 ipprot=17 sport=58644 dport=53 Unknown inbound session stopped

I removed my ip address that is in there and just inserted "my ip" I didnt think about how dumb it was to post my ip online.

UV Realtime is installing now

Here are some screenshots, The router seems to be working fine for now. It seems as though if this is intermittent it would be hardware related?

Re: 3801HGV connection issues with log. Advice greatly needed

Part 2 of your original post is about RG, when the RG is stable without sync will see the SSID, however you do not see it when in a reboot state.

Tests posted, 1500 feet with less than 15 signal noise ratio and about 45M raw sync rate ( note drop roughly 1M / 100 feet, if SAI on K card. 64M would expect 48-51, therefore expect your on an F card about 60M.

Inference in upload and 2 download band, beyond local am radio interference. In last 24 years have had 3 retrains and over 6 million correctable errors in great situation should see zero, very good less than 10k, good less than 100k you have (say it with me) over 6 million, plus other errors resulting in RG reinits. You are correct that currently no issue only 74! errors in 15 minutes. Still recommend tier support for tech dispatch based on large number errors, if needed tech can replace your RG for peace of mind but honestly do not think this is an RG issue.

Re: 3801HGV connection issues with log. Advice greatly needed

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it, I will check and see if I have the plan you mentioned when I call tomorrow. If I dont I will just tough it out for a little bit, I am about to move to another location in a few weeks.
